Default Dish Size

Hi
Im very new to this but Ive done a bit of research and decided to get a TECHNOMATE TM 1500 CI+ Super

What size of dish should I be looking at? I live in N. Ireland about 15 miles south of Belfast.

Im either looking at a single lnb in which case I would be wanting Astra 1 (19.2E) or maybe I should go for a multi lnb set up for astra 1 and hotbird.

I started out just wanting to get access to the german channels that I used to watch on analogue but in the course of my research Ive realized that I could get a bit carried away

Thanks for any advice

Neil

LOL, Hi Neil.

Yes, it's easy to start off shopping for a pint of milk and come home with a motorised satellite system

Let's see. At a rough guess, I'd say that a basic single LNB setup would need a 1m dish, whilst a multi LNB dish could probably do with a 1.2m dish.

If you can afford it, a Channel Master (or Andrews as they're now known) 1.2m dish is very tasty, or maybe even better is the Gibertini 1.25m dish. That's probably the finest dish around that size now. If you're on a budget, the Triax TD110 is not bad and very good value, but only just over a meter.

Have a shop around and see what you can find locally, as postage can be expensive.

The receiver you have chosen is great value for money and very well equipped for what you pay (around £105 inc del, not sure what that is in €).

Welcome to the board m8. Hope we can be of some help to you

Many thanks for the reply.
I am really going to have to try and stick to a budget, could get scary otherwise :mega:
Is a 1.1m dish ok on a wall mount, I dont really have room for a ground based stand?

Do these guys have an ok reputation http://www.satellitesuperstore.com ?

And my last question (promise) I buy a lot of stuff from screwfix for work. They have PH100 Satellite Cable(BS EN 50117-1 CAI approved) is this ok or should I be looking for something else.

Once again, many thanks for any help

Cheers

Neil

Ask as many questions as you like m8. That's what we're here for

Yes, a 1.1m dish is fine on a wall mount as long as it's a good one with the fixing points set well apart and with plenty of fixing bolts.

Yes, that supplier is very good as far as I'm concerned, but that's only my personal opinion. I've used them before with no problems. They aren't the cheapest though (in fact quite expensive on many items) so shop around on price.

I suspect that the PH100 cable is OK just based on the name. Do you have a catalogue number and I'll check it out for you?

It should be double-screened in copper, and I prefer the foam filled stuff.

Dont know if this is a good price, Im not finding much to compare it with.

Thanks again

I think it's the same as this stuff:

http://www.ardelectronics.com/order/...prod=150-01089

Same BS no. and it's Sky approved, so it should be OK

It's a reasonable price too.

I get mine here:

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Ind..._PF/index.html

... which is foam filled as opposed to the PH100 stuff which is plastic/air core. I think the foam keeps the water out better, and although quite stiff, doesn't kink when working around corners like the hollow stuff.

Blimey, that is very cheap if you live nearby and can collect.

you might as well go motorised now, this will cover all areas, most people who go multi feed find that a motor costs not much more to start with,it saves more work later on.
