This is the excellent pole mounting instruction sheet produced by Andrews/Channel Master for their 1.0m and 1.2m dishes. These dishes are very big and heavy, so you could possibly shave a little off of the specifications for a lighter or smaller dish, but they will certainly give you a good idea of what's required.

Never underestimate the effect of wind loading on your dish, especially when attempting to install it!

Always pick a non-windy day, and preferably get a second person to help.
