Yes, does sound a bit odd. I checked that TP this afternoon, and it was giving the same 90+ signal here as it was the other day when I tried it.

Signal meters (strength and quality) are OK for a very rough guide, but you can't really compare between receivers with any degree of reliability. The internal software meters are only good for comparing one TP against another on the same box, so I think you're right to be sceptical.

I think it's most likely your LNB struggling, if not due to the heat then something else letting go. The switching frequency between low and high band is 11700 so I wonder if it might be something to do with band switching?

I'm also surprised that your smaller dish keeps up with your larger dish. I have to be honest and say that I'm pretty sure that your wooden boom arm is too long just looking at your photos. Very hard to tell, but I can't help thinking it's maybe 4"-6" too long.

8) As a newbie my logic would say that on the same receiver a properly tuned 105X97 dish would give a a higher signal level than on a 60X70, but in my case they were identical.

Something interesting I also learned was that when tuning in the Sky dish for Astra 1 I had to elevate the dish to the maximum (from mark 40) , right to the end of the slots. It seems alot just for a 9 degree variation in location.

Will see if I can find similar sized dish with boom to measure boom length. Yeah mine ( 72cm) does seem a bit long! . Maybe will post new topic asking for anybody with same size dish to measure and post their boom length.

My Triax TD110 is 105cm x 95cm (I think) so I'll measure it for you. I'll be interested to see if my estimate is anywhere near!

It doesn't mean that yours will be the same, because the focal point can vary dish to dish, but it might give you an idea.

If you get it exactly right, it should easily outperform your smaller one.

Hmm, can't remember where I got those measurements above from :

My Triax TD110 is actually 112cm high and 101cm wide. The boom length, excluding the plastic LNB fitting and right up to the dish face the other end is 62cm. Picture attached.

Thanks alot for the measurements.
Would defintely seem to indicate that I'm out. I was of course delighted when I got the thing to work first day now have to see if I can find the same enthusiasm to fine tune boom length.
Have used your photo as it was not encrypted and there was no DRM protection.
Hope that you won't see it as vandalism.

Yeah, interesting.

Don't let my comments detract from your great achievements, would just be nice to squeeze a few more horsepower out of it, eh?

Maybe four and a half inches too long then it would seem?

Ah, yes... If I'd have thought about it, I would have specified it in centimeters 8)

Your dish is 6% larger than mine, so reducing your stats by as much is sure enogh 5 1/2 inches on boom and I would actually be increasing the distance by 2 inches from LNB to top of dish, so opening up the angle. All possible, but as at the moment my signal strength is 78-79% with quality of around 98-99% , except of course on the prob. Tp.

The only way I could judge would be using on screen signal meters. Will let you know when I get around to it.
Actually today here was cool , raining (not heavily ) and overcast and 11836H was breaking up and picture freezing.

Ah, yes, you are completely correct. Five and a half inches it is. I should learn not to try and work things out in my head!

Not sure how much of a test you've given it, but did you ever have any problems with this transponder using your FTA receiver on the Sky dish?

Seeing as the symbol rate of 11836H happens to be 27500, you can tune your digibox to receive it and use your big dish. This would take your FTA receiver out of the equation if it's still problematical.

Give it a go and let us know the results.
