Broadcasting groups Central European Media Enterprises (CME) and News Corp do not intend to bid for Polish commercial free-to-air broadcaster Polsat, despite both previously having been linked with the station. Polsat owner Zygmunt Solorz-Zak is reportedly looking to sell 20% of the channel for around Euro250m (US$316m).
But CME communications director Romana Tomasova told sources that CME targets markets where it can own a majority stake. "It doesn’t make any sense for us to buy 20% of Polsat," she said. But CME is still looking to enter the market. Other possible buyers for Polsat reportedly include RTL Group, Mediaset and TF1.
