The MGM Channel has climbed on board My TV's new direct-to-home service in Africa, run by John Tydeman, the former CEO of Middle East pay-TV platform ADD.
New Nigerian satellite platform My TV, which already counts BBC World and Fox Sports among its bouquet, has signed a deal with MGM to broadcast The MGM Channel to subscribers across sub-Saharan Africa from next month on a non-excluusive basis. MGM Networks' executive VP Bruce Tuchman said the deal fits in with MGM's strategy in the growing African TV market. "We believe the launch of My TV and the emergence of new opportunities across the region will help spur higher multi-channel penetration and create even more attractive business prospects for channels across this burgeoning television market," he said. Strong Technologies-backed My TV says its fledgling DTH satellite network, based in Abuja, aims to provide African homes with family-oriented programming for around US50¢ per day. As well as The MGM Channel, its family includes BBC World, Fox Sports, Trace TV, MCM Pop, MCM Top, Eureka!, Baby TV, Fashion TV, Adventure 1 and AIT.
