Hello all,
We're all Ballroom Dancing nuts in our house and I saw some listings of dancing programs broadcast on satellite....so I nipped down to Maplin and bought a Kit...Reciever,dish.cable..etc.I'm going to try to get it all working tomorrow...JUST A QUICK QUESTION PLEASE. The channels with the programs I want are: TVE Spain and SWF Germany, will I be able to find these if I align the dish to Astra 1 at 19.2 which is the sat recomended by the reciever handbook? Hope you can help to get us all cha-cha cha'ing to the T.V. ![]() Best Wishes LAZ. |

Hi there laz. Welcome to Satellite Help.
Hope your avatar isn't an example of your dancing! ![]() TVE INTERNACIONAL is indeed on Astra 1 at 19.2E 11,568 - Vertical - SR 22000 - FEC 5/6 and is Free to Air. Can't find any mention of SWF, but most German stations are on Astra 1. Do you have any more info on this channel? Also, what receiver did you buy? Good luck with your setup. Drop by and ask whatever you want - there's usually one or two of us knocking around the forum to help out ![]() STICK

SWF is Sudwest Fernsehen and operates in the clear on 19E.
Ther are 2 analogue regioanl versions & 3 digital regional versions _http://en.kingofsat.net/find.php?question=sudwest&standard=All

Wow that was quick....
thanks for your replies,Yep thats me dancing !!! thats why I've gotta find these channels so I can see how to do it properly... .I expect I have jumped in an bought a not so good receiver from Maplin , but when I saw the Kit with all included I was tempted. The Receiver is a Cosmag SL35 digital one...Hope it works o.k....I think it's German but the instructions are in English...sort of !!! The Kit instructions are in GERMAN though so I will be guessing what they say... Great that the Channels I need are on the Astra 19...I am hoping to align it by waiting till 13:00 ..aligning to the sun then moving east by about 19' and slowly moving till I get a picture... :? one thing I'm not sure about is the vertical angle....would it be about 30' for London? Best wishes Laz. |

The receiver you've ended up with is actually pretty good for basic FTA use
![]() As for aligning the dish, a little preparation can save you a lot of time. Here's a simple little tool to get your basic info: http://www.ses-astra.com/consumer/az...p?locale=en_GB It's easy to drive and tells you what you need to do. Make sure you select 19.2E! You don't even have to know your latitude and longitude, just click on London. The tricky part is locating azimuth 19.2E. Using a compass, that's 19.2 degrees east of due south. For London, incorporate a magnetic variation of about 3 degrees, so 16 degrees towards the east will get you pretty close. STICK

All went well installing my first Sat. system yesterday.
The hardest thing was not falling off the ladder as I drilled the wall for the dish bracket !! Used a compass for due south then the receiver gave a tone till I was aligned..easy. ![]() The remote control is a bit erratic tho' sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. so it's back to Maplin for another. Thanks for all your help. Laz. |

Went to Maplin....got a replacement remote control....it works fine now.
![]() The receiver is very user friendly and I've got lots of channels to look at now...some are even in English !!! Just one thing, I used a rubber boot (supplied in the kit) over the f connector to the LMB and then taped gaffer tape over it. I hope this is good enough to keep the rain out. :? The kit was £79.99 and gave me a 60cm dish with single LNB, Receiver, Sat finder beeper, 20 m. of cable and rubber seal boot for the LNB. and a flat cable piece to go through a door/window gap. and f connectors etc. Tomorrow I may point the dish at Astra 28' to see whats on that one. Cheers Laz. ![]() |

Hey, good stuff laz. You're a natural!
Did you find the channels you were after? The other decent (for decent, read large) satellite location is Hotbird at 13E You can have a browse through what's available FTA here: http://lyngsat.com/europe.html The rubber boot thing sounds fine. Don't forget that quite a few channels have more than one audio carrier, so more than one language. Selectable from the menu in the receiver. Well done 8)
