have just installed a 80cm dish to try and get the art sport packages off hotbird. the only signal i have been able to receive so far is off astra 1 at 19 e. i have moved the dish angle to approximatly the right direction but there is only a very, very faint signal(lot`s of interference and you can`t make out any picture on screen only a faint outline). i have just been to my local shop to get a satellite finder but they had none in so until i can get my hands on one i was wondering if anyone had any advice of anything i could try like adjusting the vertical elevation as i`m fairly new to this and don`t have much idea at the minute?
any help greatly appreciated. |

Hi Barry - welcome to the forum. :welc2:
First of all mark your 19E start location on the dish mountings with pencil mark - then if you get hopelessly lost you have a location you can easily start from again! To get to 13E you need to move the lnb 3-4 inches to the left (when you are standing in front of the dish and raise the lnb elevation about half an inch or so. Make sure you have a nice strong transponder tuned in to home in on - 10979 H 27500 3/4 on Hotbird 7A is a decent signal. When you get a strong signal try scanning it - you should get a load of Italians and some other stuff. Once you get to this point tweak the dish again using 12015H. (the ART frequency - its a bit weaker than the others at 13E for some reason.) Mark the mounting points again - just in case you knock it - we have all done it! ![]()

Hi Barry, welcome.
Is there any way you can see your screen while you are moving your dish because you will get a much better Idea of the signal that way rather than using a meter. A meter tells you that you have a signal but it does not tell you which satellite.

thanks for your previous advice
i have finally got the dish aligned and am getting a signal off hotbird and have received the art sports card in the post but when i put the card in the slot and go to the art sports channel i get a message "card error please check card". now the receiver i have is (i think) just a viaccess receiver and i notice that the art card is encrypted with viaccess 2, does this mean i`ll have to get a viaccess 2 cam to view the channel using the receiver i have or is it maybe just a dodgy card? any more advice would be welcome |

Can you give us the make and model number of the receiver, and we will see what we can find out about it - its quite possible it doesnt have Viaccess built into it.

Yes, although the receiver says Viaccess, maybe it's only Viaccess1 capable. A Red Viaccess 2 CAM in the CI slot will probably fix it, or maybe you could return the receiver and replace it with one that is compatable?
Viaccess 2 CAMs go for around £40, so it's up to you. It's unlikely to be the card, unless you bought a dodgy (or expired) one off eBay.

when you say a red viaccess 2 cam, is red a make of cam or a specific type of compatibillity(i take it it`s not just referring to the coloour of the case)?

Just a quick thought Barry, have you tried the card in with the chip facing down as well as facing up.
Some receivers including the Dreambox need the chip facing down whilst a few others need the chip facing up.
