footy help please

Hi there - first time poster and just joined so please go easy on me

I have a 90cm dish with disecq and a digibox with cam access

i also have 2 cams - aston with a red card inside it with "C-Kard" printed on it and an Irdeto cam (without a slot for any card

I am looking simply for football - no porn or anything like that - i'm a footy freak (n a dad of young kids and a christian too hence why no porn etc)

could you advise me what i need to do to get footy - preferably free and legit (i used to watch it on a turkish channel til sky closed them off)

I havent used the system for about 18 months, so have forgotten just about everything that I must do to get it set up again

I would appreciate it if you could tell me

1 - do i need to buy anything extra
2 - what satellite is the best to point to
3 what channel shows the footy (premier and championship as I'm a BCFC fan - pls don't laugh)
4 - are the cams that I have any good?
5 anything else that maybe helpful to me

also a polite request - please don't bombard me with tech speak as i just dont understand it (I'm thick too)

OK, nitty-gritty. When you say "90cm dish with DiSEqC", what do you mean by DiSEqC?
Do you mean a motor, a multi-LNB setup with a switch, or just a single LNB?

I'm a dad with young kids too, so I know what you mean about the porn. You still have to be very careful though, as I've found some really scary stuff on during the day FTA!

I keep a Sky digibox with a Free-To-View card for the wife and kids at 28.2E, and my own receiver that the kids are not allowed to touch. Not 'cos I like to watch porn on it 24/7, but because it's just impossible to guarantee it to be porn-free.

Your existing CAMs and cards are not much good for Premiership or Championship football now.

I'm not too well up on Championship football, so I'll have a read up and I'll get back to you with my findings!

The best option for you is probably legit subscription cards. There are two good value packages available at the moment, ART Sports on Hotbird 13E and DigitAlb on 16E. The first is in Viaccess 2.5 (and requires a Viaccess 2 CAM) and the second in Conax (requires a recent Conax CAM).

They cover nearly all Premiership games, but I'm not sure about Championship. There is also Nova, TPS and one or two others, but they are a lot more expensive.

Give me 15 mins, and I'll have a dig around.

What receiver do you have, and which satellite(s) are you aligned on now?

I don't think that the ART cards OR the DigitALB cards cover the Championship, but the former (full package with ART Sports 5 & 6 plus Al-Jazeera 1 & 2) does cover the league and FA cup's, as well as Champions League, Spanish, French, Italian and German top leagues.

Perhaps you could support a Premiership side this year? ops:

The Viasat card looks like it might cover Championship, but it's very expensive :'(

welcome to the forum, there are quite a lot of feeds, mostly from sky, on 16E, the other day was QPR Vs Leeds, which are FTA, but generally without commentary. Also you only tend to get only the big games, I know that there are championship games shown on 5E but this package is hard to subscribe to in the UK and costs a lot of money, so you are probably better off with Sky.
BGonaSTICK has mentioned your best options for premiership, and other European games, and as there is not a lot hacked at present, we will need more information regarding your recever and set up.
You are going to find porn on most satellites, and there is a porn channel as part of the DigitAlb package, but if you use parental control, or don't switch the porn on, using the Conax Cam you have to set the card to receive the porn channel, you should be fine.
Personally I find the adverts, with male nudity, on ITV more offensive than what you get on most European channels, as the porn and nudity seem to be confined to selective channels, so if you don't wish to view them you can delete the offending channels.
Hopefully there will be a few more hacked channels available soon and we can enjoy a good football season, at present I'm still enjoying the cricket !!!!!!!!

Hi Gremlin, welcome.

Have a look at Lubly Jubly's site which lists most of the footy matches being televised. Some of the top championship matches are shown so if your team gets among the promotion contenders list you may see them.

LJ's site is http://64.77.87.5/sport/british.html Just move around the site if you want non british or champions league or international matches.

The Digitalb channels can be tricky when it comes to porn because while they have a dedicated porn channel (so I am told ) after 10 pm the 5,6,7 and 8 channels switch to porn and can catch you out. The Film Premier channel seems to avoid porn so its safe to leave it on that.

I have a pixx box (can't remember model number but has a cam slot)

I am really interested in the art card - ebay have them around £100 so could be worth it

I am also tempted by sky as they do the full sports package for £15 for 6 months then £34 for 6 and I can get a further £50 back from quidco - total yearly cost of £244

mmm - now I've just worked that cost out I am thinking about art card again

what cam would I need to buy for this and where is the cheapest to get it?

does anyone know yet whether the championship games will be on art or aljazeera?

I watch any football so just the premiership without championship wouldn't be tooooooo much of a hardship

I used to watch the turkish channel for footy but this was stopped 2 seasons ago - not used box and set up since, so both it and I are a bit rusty !!!

If you have a motor, it'll be driven by DiSEqC 1.2 commands

The Sky package sounds good until you work it out doesn't it? Twice as much as ART!

Then you realise that it's only UK games, doesn't include the many games now taken by Setanta, no 3pm Saturday kick-offs...

If your receiver has a CI slot, you should be able to just buy a (relatively) cheap Red Viaccess 2 CAM, or maybe you fancy a multiCAM like the Dragon. Red Viaccess CAMs seem to go for about £45, maybe cheaper on eBay.

As the guys have said, you can pick up quite a few free feeds for Championship games. Don't think ART show them.

Just a word of warning re the Digitalb channels. Whilst they are showing some good film channels they have done the dirty on us and dropped the footy except an odd match and then only to existing subscribers.
