As I am very new to this subject, I think I may need a little help.
I have recently purchased a 57cm dish setup along with a Comag SL35 receiver from Maplin electronics for free to air satellite's After managing to focus the dish on what I beleive to be Astra 19.2 east, the on screen display tells me that I am focused on Astra 1B at 19.2E. At this time I was under the impression that 1B has been de-orbited. Could it be that I am actually focused on Astra 1KR and its just the receiver that has 1B programmed into its memory? the receiver is a Comag SL 35 as I seem to be getting the same channels as listed for 1KR. Many thanks. Len. |

Hi Len,
Yes, you're right. 1B is all washed up and floating around in the darkness with not a care in the world now ![]() Your receiver has the name of the orbital location stored away in the firmware someplace. It's probably possible to change it either via the menu system, or via a software program on your PC and a null-modem lead. There may be a channel list updater, or even a new version of the firmware itself available from the manufacturer. It also suggests that the transponder list itself could do with updating to receive all the latest channels. Welcome to the forum ![]() STICK

Hi Len welcome to our merry nband . The laster satellites can cover either some or all of the frequencies transmitted by the earlier satellites.
Satellite design is improving all the time, the earliest satellites at 13E and 19E could transmit 16-20 frequencies, now look at the newly orbited Hotbird 8 This can transmit on any of the 102 frequencies in use at 13E (up to 64 at the same time).
