Default What receiver is this?

Can anyone tell me if this receiver is the old Fortec Lifetime classic or the new one :?

I want to update the firmware etc...etc.. but i have no idea which receiver i have. I dont want to bugger it up by installing the new type firmware to the old receiver or visa-versa.

If you can help it would be appreciated.

Thanks

It seems to match the FortecStar Lifetime Classic: DVB-S, 3000 Ch., FTA, check this web site for a picture and information:

Click on fortecstar

Yes, be careful m8. I'm not sure if it's regarded as the 'old' one or the 'new' one.

I presume you're looking at the al7bar patches?

Attached is the picture they have for the 'new' one here: http://www.al7bar-soft1.com/

Thing is, they no longer have a picture of the old one. Get it wrong, and it's toast. It wont open bu99er all anyway.

Have to say, yours looks very similar to the new one.

The latest al7bar patch is 1st April this year for Polsat and ABsat, neither of which are open now.

Thanks for the info stick. If neither Polsat or Absat are working i dont think i'll bother then. Not much point realy.

I think its best just to play with the FTA stuff and then invest in a new receiver.

To be honest i'm after the french stuff on Canal+ from Astra 1 and Eutelsat W2.

So basically i am going to need a receiver that will open viaccess. can you recommend anything thats not to expensive.

Actually its a receiver that will open mediaguard 2, Seems thats what all the channels seem to be encrypted with. > I'm guessing that i will also have to invest in a suitable cam.

Premiere is open again on the Dragon CAM, more recent patchable STBs, and also Linux receivers and PC's. A very nice package.

Canal+ France is open on the new K3 card, depending on which file you load. Also does Cyfra+, TPS and Premiere.

Neither of these two options will be available to you on your FTA Fortec Star unless you can get the al7bar patch loaded and punch the new Premiere keys in with the remote. I'm thinking that's unlikely, but possible.

I'd have a play with your FTA box for a little while, even if it's only for a few days. It will help familiarise yourself with a little of what's out there ATM.

An upgrade to something else - maybe a Dreambox - would then add a number of new dimensions.

A Canal+ France subscription is very expensive. The K3 card is about £60, plus £20 for a programmer. A CAM like the Dragon (with loader card) maybe another £80. The K3 card could be killed at any time, and the Knot card team have a sh!t reputation for support.

The French package has only just been opened for the first time, so you may want to take a chance.

Then there's also card-sharing to consider.
