Probs setting up mythtv

that is a lot more promising.

Before you run mythfrontend though you need to run "mythtv-setup" and go through the 5 stages there. These involve setting up the database connection, defining the particular TV card you are using. Adding channels to this card, and then connecting the input to the card. There all fairly straightforward.

The setup instructions you would have seen when running mythfrontend for the first time are just how to connect mythfrontend to the mythbackend, as it obtains these connection details from the mythconverg database.

The best way for MythTV is if you consider that the Mythbackend is the important bit, and Mythfrontend is just a dumb terminal that needs everything from mythbackend.

BTW the other night I finally setup a remote mythfrontend running on my normal workstation. This connects to the mythbackend box next to the telly downstairs. I can watch recorded programs or live TV, OVER a WIFI connection, without any problems. I am impressed :-)

I did try to run the set up bit earlier but missed out the hyphen lol. Just managed to run set up set the card etc etc but when It comes to scan channels the option is greyed out. So near and yet so far

Ok now I have the scan channels bit sorted but I don't know what to enter in the boxes. My dish is pointing at Hotbird. I thought I would just be able to scan channels and a list would appear as it did with Kaffeine. So very nearly there

Ok don't know whats happened but I am now back to square 1. Made the mistake of upgrading mythtv to version 0.19 (latest stable version) and now I can't even get into mysql.

Got mythtv v0.19 working but still can't scan for channels with it.

When I run mythtv this is the error message I am now receiving. I assume this is to do with the fact that I have no channels set up due to the fact it won't scan. Is there a channel.conf file available for all the hotbird channels?

ok another update got so far its really flaming frustrating. I have the channels and frequencies in mythtv and can get to the watch tv section then it just crashes. Here is the Konsole output.

Hi Jontydog,

I feel your frustration :-(

When you say you can switch to liveTV, do you actually see anything, or is it completely blank for about 20 seconds, then it switches back?

I've seen similar "ringbuffer" errors like this before, but can't remmeber where!! It could be a red herring though, and the problem with that file, is because some other issue is causing the file not to be created!

I'll have a think and get back to you!

I just get a blue screen that says "error encountered while displaying video" and then the readout from Konsole.
Could it possibly be a codec problem?
