Thats looking to me like the actual installation of the mythtv DEB packages failed. Its been a while since I used Debian to any degree. How were you installing MythTV? Try running "apt-get install" and see if it still comes up with errors.

I would persevere with getting this installed correctly before you go to the configure stage!

That would be a cool setup. I was initially going for a Backend with multiple frontends, but stuck with one box.

Nearly all of those errors are simple database access errors caused possibly by one or two bad lines in your database configuration data (which I'm guessing is in the file /home/jontydog/.mythtv/mysql.txt) or your mysql base setup.

Perhaps you can post the contents of that file?

As a test, you could try using userid 'root'@'localhost' instead of 'mythtv'@'localhost' and a blank password.

The userid does not have sufficient access, because your mysql user table doesn't grant userid 'mythtv' that access.

There are some other errors at the top which may have caused some corruption to mysql.txt.

Check the readme for mythtv and see what it says about setting up mysql.txt (if anything). You would normally have to configure this manually somehow.

There's a line after the MythTV installation where you create the table that controls MythTV

For example on Gentoo this is:

%mysql -u root -p < /usr/share/mythtv/database/mc.sql

I'm guessing that if the initial installation for MythTV is not completed then this step has not been done, and hence it is causing the databases errors as the mythtv user does not exist!

I don't know if this is the same on Debian/Kubuntu, but I would guess it is pretty similar.

Since it says there are still errors from the "apt-get" installation of MythTV, I am guessing that this step has not been done, even if it is done automatically at the end of the installation.

Yeah, sounds like that could be the MySQL problem. There are some other device errors though :? Maybe it's all tied together...

still having same problem so I am gonna uninstall mythtv (even though I don't think its installed anyway) and uninstall mysql then reinstall them both. On the other hand I could run a fresh install of kubuntu on a different machine and set it up on that. What do you reckon?

Hi,

On Gentoo (the distro I am most used to) every MythTV install assumes that you already have MySQL up and running first. So I think your tack of making sure this is running correctly first is the best way to proceed!

another update and things are looking more promising. Added a database called mythconverg and get mythtv running but when I go to "watch tv" I now get an error message about not connecting to backend. This is the full konsole readout.
