Default is a sky mini dish any use ?

hi folks

I'm moving house soon and the house I'm buying has a sky mini dish already and the gook in me started to wonder what I could use it for

been looking around and starting to think ill be lots better with an 80 cm motorised disk (but the other half may not think the same way )

but just as a first "play" what would/could i get in the way of fta stuff from the sky dish if pointed in the right direction

guess is to small for a dual lnb ?

Depends where you are, and if it's a zone 1 or 2 dish reallly.
Should be OK for 19E and maybe 13E if you don't suffer too much rain fade.

OK for a play to check out any possible obstuctions, but your best bet is a little 80cm on a motor as you say.

Buy the boss something nice for the new house then spring it on her

Monoblocs are not designed to work with minidishes. (It will work to some degree, but the results are likely to be disappointing) - If you want a monobloc but an 80cm dish.

Yes, the Lidl kit is very cheap. You may end up upgrading in the future, but their receivers resell well so don't let that put you off necessarily. You get what you pay for though. If you want a good cheap FTA box, these are excellent VFM. If you want flexibility or upgradeability, then buy something else.

I agree with the others on your Sky dish. The little ones are 43cm, the larger around 60cm. The latter will be a lot more use than the little one, but not really up to a monobloc.

The Silvercrest (Comag) SL65 used to have patches available IIRC (the 55 certainly did), but these days I doubt the updates will come quick enough to be of any use. Other receivers have much better patching support.

I also think it might be wise to go for a receiver with a CAM slot. I think that the next generation of CAMs will be pretty useful. The Dragon's still delivering, but is due to be replaced before long.
