Is it me or are all the other forums on satellite tv for real. ![]() Closed threads for just mentioning the work "hack" or "Key" ![]() No help whatsoever just the usual remarks like "There are lots of threads if you can be bothered to look for them". > ![]() I looked through a few of them this evening and was amazed at how anally retentive some of the people are on these other forums which will remain nameless. In the word of Pete from Big Brother "WANKERS". From what i can see no one really has the time to help anyone or they just cant be arsed. I was always under the impression that the idea of a forum was to help other people with the forum subject.I have learned such a lot in such a short space of time from this forum. If it wasn't for people like BGonaStick, Analoguesat, SatSid, Jimdefruit, & Mickha to name a few who have the time to reply to people who are having problems i'm sure that this forum may have turned out the same. :? Thank god it didn't or i would probably be using my dish as a sledge when it next snows. From this i will make the point of helping out anyone on this forum to the best of my ability, granted i am only a novice at the momment but i do learn things very quickly and i hope to be a lot more knowledgeable within the next 12 months. Anybody that wants any help just let me know. This also means physical help. If you live in the midlands area and you know how to make a good cup of coffee just give me a shout. ![]() Well thats my rant over and i feel much better for it. Please accept my appologies if their is any swearing in this thread, but some times its the only way to get your point accross. Thanks very much to everybody who contributes this forum wouldn't be here otherwise. Thanks for looking. nano

You are very welcome my friend, and thanks for your kind words
![]() Some forums are better than others, but that is one of the main reasons I started this place - to help the raw beginner and to do it without being either patronising or too technical. The other main reason was to show folks the alternatives to Sky. Not as a substitute, but a completely different satellite world all the same. There are guys out there that know far more about this stuff than I do, but can they be bothered to help the newbies? I'll let you decide. Our team of mods are amongst the best in the business at giving clear and friendly advice, and we all owe them a great deal of thanks. Enjoy your time here m8, I'm sure you'll be a valuable member of the team ![]() STICK

Dont forget to donate
By donating just £2 a month you can help all the newbies on this forum to have a better life. :mega: Bob was found frustrated & hanging of a ladder trying to stick his dish on the wall, Your donation could stop this misery from happening :roflmao: :clap:OK that last bit was a load of crap, but it seems to work on the tv. Come on get your hands in your pockets and donate. I doubt very much that this site would be here without donations. A few quid every now and then is worth it for the information avaliable, plus you can have a bloody good laugh on here. I'm also hoping we can get Satsid to allow viewings of his setup (Open free to Blue Peter badge winners ). This is a bloke i admire, what a setup. I can just see it now "SatSids Satellite experience" t-shirts and Keyrings :roflmao:Well you never know, it would be an excellent money spinner, all donations to the forum. It seems to work at Goonhilly anyway. :? I'm sure that Uther (second dish to built on the site i think) at Goonhilly will be up for sale soon, Its due to be pulled down to make way for 2 smaller more powerfull dishes, Thats what they said last time i was there anyway. Would make a great addition to SatSids collection. :roflmao:

1) All forums are privately owned. When you sign up for a forum, you agree to be bound by their rules and regulations. Forums have been closed in the past for allowing discussions of keys and codes. At the beginning of this year several high profile sat forums were taken off air by the authorities taking action against sat piracy. This is why many forums wont allow keys to be posted, and whilst some have a zero tolerance against any discussions of the "dark side" of the hobby. They are simply trying to protect their forum - and all forums are businesses. 2) many folks only join forums to get the latest codes. It can be extremely wearing to the old hands on the forum to answer the same question for the 20th time in a week. Hence the terse "look in the usual places" posts. 3) As for helping the newbies to the hobby thats where we come in Hopefully we can help folks new to the hobby find some new aspects to the hobby and increase their interest. With a bit of luck they will stay on the forum and help future newbies in turn4)

You have made some good points there analoguesat.
![]() When refering to keys the other forums i'm refering to don't even let you mention things like premier being open again and things like that or even saying that the keys are avaliable again. ![]() I understand the legalities of posting keys on the forum and i am glad that this forum doesn't post them as it would probably end up the same as the others past. I.e Not in existance. With the term "look in the usual places" that is often mentioned i spent a whole evening the once serching one forum looking for infomation which i couldn't find. When i put up a thread asking for help regarding this i nearly had my head bitten off. You can see now why i find this site such a refreshing change. ![]() As with point 3 & 4 I am glad that there are people out there that are willing to help the newbies. I hope that i will continue to help out on the forum as i learn more and more. ![]() Unfortunately as most of my expertice lays in different areas such as D2mac which is not too much use anymore i find my self a relative newbie aswell. ![]() I know the principals are the same regarding setting up the dishes but it can be daunting using equipment that you aren't used to. Well i hope to be here for a long time if i'm allowed, so to everybody involved

I know one popular forum where there is a zero tolerance. (No names - we dont want this to degenerate into a discussion of other forums / slagging off other forums, but we all know other forums where it applies). The problem is that folks would post info that such and such was open. Then someone would ask for details of how to get it. Then the thread spirals out of control as more and more info gets chipped in and before you know where you are you are in the middle of a full blown discussion about hacking pay tv channels. The admin team have made it quite clear they dont want this area of discussion on this particular forum, so have clamped down totally. I know of quite a few folks have been thrown off forum-x for trying to push the boundaries............

I agree with all the points made and this is without doubt the friendliest satellite forum I have been a member of so much so that I have even set up an irc channel at leviathan.freedom2irc.net channel #sathelp
I used to frequent a couple of other forums but found them to be rude and arrogant most of the time and very clicky

I've learned an amazing amount from this forum - friendly, helpful people - and I'll do what I can to help others but I don't know everything by any means - don't let your standards drop - EVER!!

LOL, we'll do our best.
Analoguesat is right, forums do have to balance risk as well as the books. The counterbalance to risk is cost. The further you push the law, the more you have to pay for hosting. I maintain that it isn't illegal to talk about it, but at the end of the day, I just want to have some fun. As long as the bills get paid, then that's good.

I am a member of about a dozen sat forums, of which only about three or four are worth a regular visit. Most wind me up with their lack of interest in helping the newcomers.
99% of the posts are by members trying to get their post number up and not saying anything sensible. Satellite Help is like a breath of fresh air.
