Ok got inspired by my father-in-law. He lives in Greece and had Hotbird. Well i can tell you i was very impressed of what you could get on there:
So i am refurbing a new house in deepest Cheshire, and thought why not take the opportunity to put one of these in? So now I have a Sky Mini dish and a another black dish at least 3 times the size on the side of my house. Not pretty, and i'm not sure the Mrs believed me, when i said i had to have it because of poor signal in the area!!! So what now? From surfing the web looks it seems to be pointing me in the direction of a patched? Technomate 1000 or 1500??? So when i plug this in then what? I really want to pick up Multi-Vision (French Quality Porn or better?) and Arab new(ish) movies that Sky make you pay for? CAN ANYONE HELP ME? Much appreciated guys! P.S Like the forum!! |

Technomate 1500's are well regarded by many people. Ive got a Technomate 1000, its nice. Fast scan, stable, but no card reader or CI slot (card doohickerties now available as an extra option for them)
TPS / MV are currently open, BUT they could disappear again at any time, so dont buy anything on the expectation of opening a specific pay package. (Things change from day to day let alone week to week.)

Welcome weary traveller. The web is a large and stinking pit, but you have finally arrived at the right place :roflmao:
OK, I'm sure we can sort you out ![]() Other than the big black dish, what do you have equipment wise? Do you have any other info on the dish? Make, model, size? How old is it? How would you rate yourself technically (strange question I know, but the more techie, the more options)? How much do you want to spend? The best way to get TPS reliably at the moment is probably a K3 card, but I've got a feeling that doesn't include the Multivision channels. They can be had via a constant online connection, but personally I wouldn't bother. I'll find out about MV on the K3 for you. It also sounds like an ART card will give you a lot of what you want. Arab movies, radio, Premiership football and a whole lot more. What system/subscription does your father-in-law have? You could always copy that ![]() Maybe he has a Nova subscription? Give us a bit more info and we'll add some more detail STICK

Yes, K3 doesn't do Multivision.

Hi Satellite Cadet, welcome.
Do you know which sat receiver your father-in-law has? That could possible influence the route you should follow.

Guys thanks for all the replies.
My father-in-law had a hornet reciever! But i have not seen these before. Technically i should be fairly competent, as i work in IT. But i am completely new to the world of Satellites. I don't know the make of dish i have - it just very big and black (it's brand new) and was installed by my Satellite installer. I am told he had pointed it towards 13E? for Hotbird? My electricians have wired the house for Sky+ in every room. All the Mini Dish, Black Sat (90cm) Aerial cables go back to a cupboard under my stairs, and is yet to be terminated. The Satellite installer has been briefed to provide all services to all points (Bedrooms, Lounge, Dining Room etc) - he mentioned somethig about a magic eye? So i'll get a Technomate 1500CI - patched? Dragon Cam??? |

Hi Satelllite Cadet,
by all means get the Technomate 1500 and a Null Modem cable to attach to your PC, to update the patch. I'd advise not to get a Dragon/T-Rex Cam at the moment, but maybe get the newer supermodule 4.5, in a few weeks, after we know which extra channels it will give. You should consider getting a second LNB and disecq switch for Astra 1, 19.2E, as this will provide a lot more channels for very little cost. Best wishes Mickha |

Looking good!
If you post a picture of your dish, we might be able to ID it, or you could ask your installer. It doesn't really matter, we're just nosey :spite: Higher quality dishes just grab more signal and should retain the signal quality slightly better. The magic-eye your installer is talking about is to allow you to use your Sky remote control to control the main digibox (or indeed secondary digibox I assume, depending on which one it's wired too) from a 'remote' room where you just have a TV, like a bedroom. It's just a remote extender. Very useful though, it saves you having a digibox in every room. Sounds like you're going to have a fantastic setup when it's done ![]() If you're an IT bod, you might want to consider the Dreambox. The king of all satellite receivers, it's basically a Linux computer and a satellite tuner in a satellite-receiver case. Supremely powerful, and as future-proof as you can hope for - a new one will cost from around £400 (plus an internal hard disk as an option) and you don't have to be a Linux guru, just be able to drive an FTP client and RTFM! There is also a baby-Dreambox for about £180. Have a browse of our Dreambox section, and check the manufacturer website if that interests you. We can help ease you into it. There's also an HD version coming out next year if you have an HD telly. ![]() STICK
