Short run of CT125, matched feedhorn and something with good ears like a Technomate and he won't be too far off I reckon.

hi guys think i better come in here.i have a 1.8 channel master with c120 feedhorn.im a bit more noth than you,so you should get a bit more signel then me with a 1.8 channel master dish.here goes on what i see.i get all the verts no problems @7 west.hor is different,i can get these only in good wether and @ night only.now onto the 2.4 channel master dish.there was a report a good while back that the 1.8 channel master beat the 2.4 channel master for signel.why i guess is the 2.4 comes in 2 halfs.the 1.8 channel master is a 1 peace dish all in one.iv never tested this as i dont have a 2.4 dish,so take what you want as true here.now with my 1.8 channel master i use a heavey dutey jack 24 inch, this gives me a great veiw of the ark & is strong enough 2 hold the dish good.for receiver if i was you i would go for a receiver that has a very good tuner init.the tm5500 dapci works very well on this setup.iv used other receivers for signel as i have many.none beat this 1.channel master dishes are the best off set dish you can by,but there not cheep.hope this puts you on the right lines.also other dishes of the same size might not get as good signel gain.be warned.
all the best.

Ahh, don't believe all you read in the brochures. I think the Gibi 1.5 might get close, but I doubt it will quite match it.

It would be a fascinating shoot-out though.

I think it comes down to what you can get away with installing. I don't know what your circumstances are exactly.

Here's a picture of Sid's Channel Master from the other thread, a fantastic dish...

It's very true that once you get to a certain size and have to introduce split dishes or petalised dishes for reasons of transport and erection, you instantly lose some of the advantage of the extra size. I think it's also true to say that the bigger dishes perform better, just not in a linear fashion.

Otherwise they wouldn't make them

i did not understand what do you mean by this dear (It's very true that once you get to a certain size and have to introduce split dishes or petalised dishes for reasons of transport and erection, you instantly lose some of the advantage of the extra size )
do you have to have a planning permissiom to install such a big dish

Yes, you have to have planning permission for any dish over 1m nominal diameter.

See: http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...php?topic=16.0

You could of course take a chance an see if someone complains. You might get away with it, but if not, the authorities will probably just come and tell you to take it down.

What I meant by my comment above follows on from what Sid was saying. He said that the CM 2.4m had reportedly performed worse in tests than the CM 1.8m. He put this down to the fact that the bigger dish comes in two halves, which you have to bolt together.

The manufacturers do that to make it easier to transport. Petalised dishes take this concept further. Those dishes are made up of a number of sections, like the petals of a flower.

The inaccuracies of having joins all over the dish face, and the otherwise imperfect parabolic surface of the assembled dish face spoils the performance to a certain extent, especially if not put together properly.

I think a CM 2.4m dish will outperform a CM 1.8m dish, but not by as much as you would expect because of the above.

Hope that's clearer.
