Default Advice Before I Purchase

Hi everyone,
Would appreciate a little help before i start spending. Like most people i have had enough of sky & decided to look elsewhere. I was planning on a Lidl 85cm dish(£14.99) plus the bracket, a Tecnomate 1500ci already patched from ebay (£90 +postage). I know nothing about patching but you get a 'Teach you how to patch' cd with the receiver. What do you think of my plans & which lnb do you suggest. I am interested in the footy, films etc & generally experimenting, so was thinking of hotbird etc. I am a complete novice but have done a bit of research. I have tried loads of other forums but without doubt this is the best one i have seen.

Hi bonnykass,
you have chosen a good receiver to start with, and patching is relatively easy and quick. Any reasonable LNB will do the job you require, as you can see from this thread it needn't cost too much.

You can pick up a new LNB 0.3db LNB for £15-£20, top brand, or a cheap one for less than £5.
If you're having a fixed dish system, non motorised, to begin with, you might want to consider 2 LNB's, one for 13E Hotbird and one for 19.2E Astra 1, as these are 2 of the more popular satellites, both can be run from the same dish and gives you a lot more choice.
Have a read through the Technomate section and please post back if you have any questions.

Hi bonnykass :welc2: to Satellite Help!

Can't add much to what Mickha has said, other than get to the Lidl dish quickly - they tend to sell like hot cakes at that price!

Patching is a bit of a dark art and doesn't always deliver the goods. It's worth a go though, and we can help to walk you through these things if you get stuck

There's usually something or other available on the Technomate patch.

The good thing about the TM-1500 as opposed to the TM-1000 is that you're not at the mercy of the people providing the patches. You can always add a CAM, and there are a variety of them available.

We'll follow your early adventures in the satellite world with interest 8)

Hi bonnykass,
a twin and quad LNB is just one LNB, so you can only pick up 1 satellite, but it has 2 and 4 outputs, which can be attached to multiple receivers allowing you to watch different channels on the same satellite.
I am talking abot 2 separate LNB's, 1 picking up Hotbird the other picking up Astra 1, both attached to the same dish. Or you could go for a monoblock, which is fixed a number of degrees apart to pick up 2 satellites, but has less flexibilty if you choose to move one of your LNB's to another satellite or separate dish in the future.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes
Mickha
