Hi I'm a total Newbie
Who has ordered / bought a Twinhan Vision Dtv Sat 1022A card.. I am not at all clued up about satellite, but Ive decided to try adding a FTA card to my PC. So what I'm asking is what do you people think of Twinhan Vision Dtv Sat 1022A card. I choose it as it has low PC requirements.. Some other cards i looked at recommended 2.8 Hz processor etc My PC is a Home built Amd XP 2400+, 768 ram , dvd drive/recorder , 128 Nvidia Fx52000 Agp card..., plus my hardrives ... so whats the verdict on this Twinhan card please ? I'm planning to connect it to a old Sky Analogue dish ( fit new LNB ) which is on my house wall from when i fitted it for old Analogue sky .. What can i expect to pick up channel wise ? I'm in Greater Manchester UK . Any help , please keep it simple and thanks in advance .. |

Hi Jimjacks and welcome to the forum. Ok I have no experience with the twinhan cards but I have a Skystar 2 which I think is pretty similar. If its an old analogue dish you will need a new LNB to pick up digital broadcasts and I think the dish will be set on Astra 19E (I am sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken) which has plenty of free to air stuff. If you go here http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html this gives you a list of the channels available and which are F.T.A and which are encrypted. I think you will glad you bought a satellite card m8 Welcome to our world

Welcome JimJacks
![]() The Twinhan cards are pretty good I think :? Not sure about that specific one (I've quickly checked the spec, list at bottom) but it has DiSEqC 1.2. It has software decoding though, so will hit your PC CPU quite hard - but your box has more than enough grunt to cope with that. Keep your disks as empty as possible (or create a new partition just for recording to) and defrag them regularly. This will help both recording and playback. You might get away with your existing LNB, but for what they cost I would be inclined to replace it. They don't last forever. Now, more importantly, is your card supported by the no.1 free TV viewer application? http://www.progdvb.com/ Oh yes ![]() That means you may well be able to run with some of the more interesting plugins to decrypt scrambled TV. Twinhan Vision DTV Sat 1022A FEATURES - High quality digital satellite TV & radio receiving (DVB-S) - High speed Internet via satellite - DVB data service - Instant recording: Record digitally as MPEG II format - Schedule recording - Time-shifting - Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) - Teletext - Still frame capture - Multi channel preview matrix - Support DiSEqC 1.2 & USALS - Transponder & satellite auto scan - Viewing & schedule recording different channels simultaneously - 16:9 wide screen - Multi-language output - Hot Keys - Favorite list - Video quality adjustment - MPEG II software decoding - Software upgradeable - Includes remote control

Thank you both for the welcome and the advice.
I intend to use the original Analogue sky dish at first just to make sure everything is working. Then ask on here what is best set of sats for me to aim at for free to air english programmes , i'll start with these at first before i get to technical. What sats will be available to me with my original Sky analogue dish from where i am or will i have to get a different dish . Thanks folks ![]() |

glad to be of help m8. The satellites you can pick up depend on whether you can move your dish and the size of the dish. As for English stuff your best bet I think is finding the Sky Digital satellite at 28E. I also recommend you get yourself a little sat meter for the signal etc. Some of the other guys would probably be able to fill you in better on whats available. I would also recommend getting a copy of What Satellite magazine as that has a list of all available channels and satellites every month. I keep that by my pc. Another thing you will need in my experience is plenty of patience
Its all worth it in the end though I promise ![]()

Your analogue sky dish should be fine for a test, but the LNB might not be of the latest type, and therefore not be able to utilise the whole spectrum of frequencies on which digital transmissions are made.
Have a quick look here. You may have the second type, whereas you need the third 'Universal' type. Don't bother reading past the Universal type unless you're particularly interested. STICK
