Default Footie for me, French telly for the Mrs

Hi Guys

I have had a good look around the site(excellent by the way) and just need a few bits confirmed!!

Is a technomate receiver the way to go - combined with an Arte card? :?

What satellite would i need to point to? and could I get away with a static dish?

I understand viaccess is the way forward with Arte - what would be the cheapest receiver to have this etc.

What would be the cheapest I could get away with a set-up for this excluding the Arte card a that can come later....

Cheers

Matt

Hello m8, welcome

Yes, a Technomate receiver and ART card is a good choice right now.

You would need to align your dish on Hotbird at 13E. There's a fair bit of free French telly on Hotbird too.

A static dish will do just fine, but the size will depend on where you are. Let us know and we'll give you some numbers.

To get some extra French channels and other options for viewing, I would recommend getting a multi-LNB setup, or monobloc so that you can view Astra 1 as well. You can still have a fixed dish, but you get twice the fun!

Yes, ART is encrypted in Viaccess 2.5, so you'll either need this built into your receiver, or use a CAM capable of decrypting Viaccess 2. Either a Viaccess 2 red CAM (as opposed to the old black one) or a multiCAM.

Alternatively, you can buy a receiver with this built in. Some of the Technomates have it. TM-7650, TM-7755, TM-7800, TM-7700, TM-7000 to name a few.

Some of the later boxes like the TM-1500CI+ Super should also work if you patch them. Patching gives you even more viewing options (unofficially, or course). Some boxes are more patchable than others.

Depending on what receiver you buy, you're probably looking at around £200 plus fitting if you're not DIYing.
