Day 3.
One smart new Dreambox 7020S arrives in the post this morning (Despite me asking them to deliver it to work....) It was packaged up in a Pace Sky Digibox outer box which puzzled me a bit when I saw the postie carrying it. ![]()

Now Im home Ive had a good delve in the box. Im surprised they have only supplied a continental power cord with it. As its got a standard "figure-8" connection I'll just find one of my spare ones that Ive got lying around. It rattles rather alarmingly when shaken gently - this appears to be the internal hdd cable hitting the outer casing..... So Im not going to worry about it. Im not going to even try dismantling my sat system until the weekend though I may be tempted to power it up when Ive recovered from work a bit.

Any figure 8 power cord will be OK. Some people have cut the plug off and fitted UK 3-pin UK plug - only to be told subsequently that they have invalidated their warranty!

Well couldnt resist the lure of the new toy any longer :lmao:
Ive pulled the lnb off the Echostar and connected it to the DB. Only figured out how to set up 19E so far and first scan only ended up with 60 odd channels. ![]() Finally stumbled into the configuration menu and its now rescanning 19E for me ![]() Most impressed with the channel search and the channel change speeds. I got very close to asking my first idiots question before finding the config menu! Havent found the channel ordering menu yet - dont tell me though! I'll find it eventually.

Im getting well confused with the remote. Its very similar to the remote for my Echostar but the functions are all in different places!

Just a word of encouragement. I tried my Echostar out a few months back before I sold it and I found it very difficult to work after the dreambox.
If you have a usb memory stick, I suggest you just leave the flash image with minimal settings, install a full image like Gemini 3.1 on the usb stick and then set that up. That way if anything goes wrong, you dont mess up the base image and you can recover easily.

It took me a month to learn all the ins and outs of the Echostar when I first bought it (It was my first digital receiver). Im fully expecting its going to take at least as long to learn how to fly the DB.Ive made good progress for the first evening, and Im sure Im going to love it. Ive figured out the disecq commands, and got 16E and 19E at least partially scanned. This weekends job is to get it set up properly under the telly and maybe try to install a new image. Probably Gemini as it seems to be popular One small question for the end of the first evening Where the hell is the channel delete function on the standard image???? ![]()

Highlight the porn channel you are trying to delete, press the menu button and select delete.
The easier way is to use dreambox edit on the pc.

Well the grass is too wet to cut so Im putting the DB under the telly instead. First job is to disconnect the Echostar, and evict all the dust bunnies living round the back of the telly and in amongst the 20 or so cables hiding round the back....

First stage complete. Its all wired in and Im getting a picture on the telly and via the coax link into the tv card in my computer I can watch it on the monitor too.
So far so good. The network cable is connected into my router but before I try and connect to pc to the db Ive got 2 important jobs to do: 1 hoover up all the dust Ive created..... 2 have a restorative cup of tea..... ![]()
