dreamboxshop.co.uk

No hard drive - got a couple of them lying around - I'll just retro fit one later (being a school ICT technician has given me plenty of practise of swapping / installing hdd's over the years!)

£339. Could probably have got one cheaper from Germany, but prefer to use British suppliers where possible..

Sounds like a fair price to me

Look forward to tracking your journey. My favourite image at the moment is Gemini 3.x.

Deffo get yourself a 128Mb or 256Mb USB stick too.

Go for the 256 MB usb stick. The different cost is small and it gives more space for those extra images and a swap file.

I have Gemini 3, Gemini 3.1, Colosseum 1, Doppie Polar Eye, Doppie Polar Light and PLi Flubber images on usb and I definitely prefer the Colosseum image. It seems to work faster and gives more info.

Sorry if we are beginning to hijack your post, but I assume you will just be adding to your first post by editing.

It will be interesting to see how the thread changes over the next few months. Im sort of hoping the thread will evolve into a list of the common problems faced by the new DB owner and how they get fixed. Im a complete beginner where the DB is concerned so Im going to fall headfirst into all the potholes you experts have already safely navigated.

We'll try and keep the newbie-experience theme in mind...

Do you want comments in this thread, or in separate 'Q&A' threads?

I am beginning to doubt your sincerity.

While you are waiting, I suggest you get copies of FlashWizard 6.3 and a ftp prog like FlashFXP onto your pc ready for the big day. There is also a prog called Dreamup which you may need if it all goes tits up.

FlashWizard is used for adding and manipulating images and ftp is used for adding and manipulating emus/keys and addons.

There is a programme called Dreambox Control Centre you can use but I prefer to work directly with the files using ftp.

Day 2 update

Getting myself prepared. Currently got various utilities downloaded.

Dreambox edit from Llamasoft (v2.01)
DreamUp (1.2.2)
Already got a ftp prog Im happy with for uploading my websites (WS_FTP95 LE)
Flashwizard 6.3 from this site.

Already got a spare 128mb flash drive which I will try - and a 50cm usb extension cable to avoid the difficulties of trying to get to the back od the db when its under the telly........

Got a long lan cable lying around which will do for connecting the db to the router.
