Well, everybody, the sun is shining again and I have just fitted my Global Communications switch box running three LNBs with a space for a fourth. It's all working very well and switching satellites perfectly. I only had to give it instructions for each satellite (thought I might have had to do it for each transponder as the instruction book for my box is incomprehensible.)

Note to Sid - you'll see that I have drip loops in several places and I've sealed all the connectors to make them waterproof. You's also see some rust on the bend in the arm which I shall attend to. Note to STICK - the relative heights of the two LNBs on the bigger dish seem to be right, one 5 mm above the other. Note to all others who helped - thanks, guys!!

I'm getting BBC1 on 28.2E 76% signal and 82 quality, BBC World on 19.2E at 56% signal and 55% quality and BBC World on 13E at 53% signal and 55% quality. I wonder if some tweaking might improve that strength but that's maybe for another day. But I'm getting steady pictures so should I leave well alone?

And here's another question - The menu on my Fortec Box selects DisEq V1.1 and then the next menu reads "TONE A", TONE B" and "#1, #2, #3, #4. I started at 13E and that's #1; then 19E and that's #2, and finally 28.2E on #3. Now, on 13E and 19E I got a response on "TONE A" but no response on 28.2E which is my third LNB - just wondered why or do the tones do something else?

Finally, I'll run a new downlead into the house as the old one is white cable which is some years old, and that should be easy enough as there is alread a bored hole in my window frame to take the existing cable.

And absolutely finally, attached are two pictures of the setup and you'll see that the big dish looks as if it's pointing in the same direction as the smaller one which is on 28.2E. I had to set it further East with the two LNBs on it than with the one central one I had before.

Glad you have your switch sorted

I'm not familiar with the Fortec box menus, but I guess the tone thing is a hangover from the mini-DiSEqC tone-burst switching days for the switching only two LNBs.

I would leave your setup alone and enjoy it for a while personally.

If you want to have another fiddle before the bad weather sets in, I'm sure you could improve your signal figures somewhat.

I would have the Hotbird LNB as near to the boom arm as possible, and the Astra 1 LNB on the left of it (looking from front, as it is at the moment) and make sure your LNBs are pointing right at the middle of the dish.

As a general rule, the closer to the center of the dish you can get each LNB, the more signal it will collect.

Well done, and I hope you get plenty of enjoyment from your new setup

Thanks, Stick, maybe I might put a slightly larger wedge uner the whole lot which increase the upward angle the LNBs are pointing a little higher and therefore nearer the centre of the dish - but it's been great fun. Tomorrow I've to paint the outside of the house, I am reliably informed!!!
