Default French national TV has gone

Just to start I declare that I am a complete novice.A year ago I installed a satellite system consisting of a 80cm dish, a disceqC motor and a Technomate TM 7755 2VA 2CI receiver. I followed the instructions and the first satellite I found was Thor at 1 degree west. I scanned in the channels (about 1500) and bingo the French National TV channels (France 2,3,4, Cinq and La Chaine) were all there picture perfect. As they were all the channels we wanted there was no need to do any more and I never explored anything else. About three months ago the channels disappeared and the TV screen for these channels just says VIA/SECA. I’m still able to see the APG guide information and another menu option tells me that signal strength and quality are excellent but there is no picture or sound. I’ve tried re-scanning the channels but that had no effect. Other channels on the satellite are not affected so we can still get Euronews in French and TVMonde but my question is how can I get my French national TV channels back?. If I have to buy a decryption card, how do I find out what card to buy and where do you buy them?
Yours hopefully...

Check the Symbol Rate settings on your receiver - the digital service changed to 20000 about 3 months ago.

I don't think the French channels you mention have ever been on Thor 1W, rather Atlantic Bird 3 at 5W as nano has said.

No matter - they're definitely free on 5W, so it's only a case of some minor fiddling

Many thanks for the advice. I investigated my setup options and found one that displayed a screen like this:

LNB Type Universal
IO high 10600MHZ
IO low 9750 MHZ
DiscEqC Switching 1/2/3/4 off
TP Canal 1 (11229H)
Network search On
Scan mode All channels

An option then gave TP set up where I was able to edit the Canal 1 to H/V, Freq and SR you gave me. Unfortunately this had no effect. I did notice that apart from Canal 1 there was about 200 other TPs (whatever they are). Any ideas on what else I can fiddle with?

Are you sure your dish is pointing at 1W?

If it is you are wasting your time trying to find french tv. It aint there.

Your dish should be pointing at 5W for french tv. There is also other french stuff at 13e and 19.2e.

Scan all the transponders/ re-tune the box and let us know what you find.

I.e what channels come up. Myself or one of the other forum members should be able to figure out what bird your dish is pointing at. We can then go from there.

My Satellite is pointing to 5W (because the channels scanned in conform to the list on the web site) but the receiver thinks its pointing to Thor at 1W. I've treid to tell the receiover otherwise but threre does not seem to be any menu option to correct the illusion its under. I've also put in all the parameters as suggested but I'm still only getting a blank screen with the message Via/Seca for national French TV. So it looks like I need to call a Satellite company and get some expertise in. However I'd just like to say many thanks for all your help.

I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this. Calling someone out is going to cost you a lot for what is surely a simple fix.

If I had access to a manual, it would get done in double quick time

Unfortunately Technomate don't publish their manuals online, so I can't get to look at one.

Do you have a manual to hand?

OK, I've just gone back and read your earlier posts again.

If you could give us a little more detail it would help.

Did you install the system yourself?
If so, did you initially align it on 1W?
Where abouts are you located?
Just out of interest, why did you install a motor if you only wanted 5W?
Does your motor still work?
Do you ever drive it to other satellites?
Can you check to see if it actually moves when you select a channel on another satellite?
What happens when you select number of different channels listed as being under 5W on your receiver?

Something's definitely a little askew here, as the majority of channels and transponders on 5W wouldn't even be listed under 1W.

Any chance you could take some screenshots of the relevant menus if I told you which ones I needed?
