Default Used equipment questions

Just bought some second hand gear to get me started.

Technomate 7755 2VA 2CI
80cm Dish (transparent)

How do I know if the Technomate is already patched or not?
The dish doesn't look that big, how should I measure it to make sure it is 80cm?
Which way up does a smart card go in the card slot? I've read it should be upside down?

Cheers for the help.

You can just measure the height and width of your dish. The nominal diameter will be somewhere in between the two, but don't get too hung up on it - as long as it's ball park 80cm.

The smart card can go either way up depending on the receiver. Some are face up, some face down. Not sure about the 7755.

Have a look at this thread, which refers to the 7655, but should be pretty similar:

Lots of information there.
