Default Sat tv kit

Hi, I've recently purchased a sat kit from Lidl, without taking a time to research.
The dish supplied I think is 57cm could be 53cm, I now have found out that 60cm is reccomended
can I go with what I have, any advice on this set would be helpfull, thanks

Hi newbee, welcome to the forum.

Of course you can go with what you have got, depending upon what you want to receive.

Let us know roughly where you live and what you would like to see in the way of satellites and programmes.

LOL, you can't really go wrong at those prices.

You'll be amazed what you can get.

Most of us started off on cheap kit and got bitten by the satellite bug before moving on to higher-spec stuff.

We should take a commission from Lidl though :roflmao:

You're in good company here. We have loads of members who are now all Lidl'ed up

Yep its just a pity I can't drive. The nearest Lidl to me is about 15 miles away. As Jim said let us know what you want to view and all of us will try and help you out. I am still pretty much a novice myself but will help in whatever way i can.

Thanks for the replies, I will have a go at setting it up this weekend
I live in Aberdeen, but I will be using it about 40 miles west from there at the weekends where I hope the hills don't present a problem.
I've had a look at the channels available from sat 28.2 but thats as far as I've gone, will get back to the forum
when my choice is clearer.

Blimey not a native Aberdonian

Nice to have you on board mate. I lived in Aberdeen (Bridge of Don) for eight years while my wife went to University there. It was only supposed to be for 4 years but we like it so much we stayed a bit longer.

I used to play with D2mac stuff when i lived there and had no problems at all getting reception. Infact as most of the stuff i watch was off Thor 1 being in Aberdeen was ideal for it.

I'm guessing your going to be using it around Breamar. I don't really see any problems there at all to be honest. I'm guessing that you may have a nice wide open sky to play with.

My mum used to live in the middle of Wales with all the mountains round her and she had no problems at all with her Sky set up.

I think your going to enjoy playing with your set up there.

The more I read the less simple this sat game becomes, I was going to bolt my dish to the side of this metal shed I have but after reading storey's of woe re-this, (movement etc) I'm thinking of mounting on a pole as I've done with my Ariel. Will need to get more kit for this to make it as rigid as possible, its for use with a static caravan, can't get freeview there or channel 5 so I just want to add channels for choice.

Thanks for the advice re-Thor

I think that what you've bought will be great for your intended use. You can always go further later if you want.

Your dish doesn't have to be on the roof. It could be lower down as long as it can see they sky and be located in a place where it won't have obstructions placed in the way - like cars or deckchairs

I was visiting York the other day, and there were obviously strict planning guidelines being enforced on one particular street, because a whole row of houses had minidishes mounted at knee-height.

Unfortunately, they had no front gardens, so everytime someone walked down the street every house would have sequentially lost reception for a second or two!
