Thanks for your replies re LNB's, Here's another from the only thicko in the village.
So the multi lnb's all have a cable (by the way, is this good old fashioned co-ax ?) and they each terminate at a box. This is ideal for me, but, and here's the but, Will I be able to find a few satellites if the dish is non motorised. The present Sky dish is pointing in one direction (yep ! away from the trees ). What is this .4 and .3 thing with lnb's, can they be mixed, or is one better than the other. Your replies re space shuttle cracked me up. Thanks Pantyvest |

You're too hard on yourself
![]() Yep, all the LNBs have a short run of cable to the DiSEqC switch which is often mounted on the dish mast. It's a tiny little box as you can see here. Each piece of LNB-to-switch cable is good old coax, but good quality digital satellite stuff. Each link piece has an 'F' connector on each end, and both ends must be waterproofed. The fifth connection on the switch is the output. This runs back to your receiver like the standard cable would. Satellites don't really move around that much. New satellites tend to join up with old friends at existing orbital locations. For this reason, your LNBs won't need to move about much. If a new bird does appear, or change location and it happens to fall within the existing 'range' of your dish, then you can either add another LNB to your setup, or slide one of the existing ones along the arm. This assumes you get a dish with an adjustable multi-LNB arm of course! The 0.3dB, 0.4dB thing is the noise figure. Anything under 0.6dB is fine, though generally the lower the number the better. You can mix and match (makes, noise figures, size) no problem. HTH STICK
