Signal strength 43, quality 32 means that you're probably not pointing at anything at all, I would suggest

Setting the angle of the dish is critical, unlike terrestrial TV.

Try the SMW utility here and then you'll have a much better idea of which satellite you're on as well.

The cheap satellite beepers are not totally effective or reliable. Can you see the signal strength/quality indicators on the PC monitor from the dish, or get someone to help you with this?

I will give the links you posted ago.

I had been using this one which i found a link to on one of the numerous sites a search suggested .. I like the way you just click the map to go right down to street name level for you chosen satellite..( i can use this to get the lat and long for the other programs )

http://www.satsig.net/maps/satellite...uk-ireland.htm

Alas due to the daft design of the software i carnt see the strength and signal meters from my monitor, if I'm outside ..

! they are that small , the latest software doesnt even show anything at present ( the previous version of the CDrom showed the 43 strength , 32 quality ) and I have to do a scan for the dox to send power to the LNB and activate the sat finder squeal .....

and im using a sky analouge mesh dish fitted on what looks like a bent scaffolding pole , like a letter T but remove the righthand side top of the Tee..

Just put a shaver adaptor on the end it'll be absolutely fine.
You can buy an adapter from Maplins that locks the 2 pin european plug into an adapter for the UK. Its only £2.79

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...0plug&doy=10m9

I have one on my Fortec Star receiver. Works fine. Definately safer than a shaver socket and less likely to have the cable dislodged halfway through a firmware upgrade.

Now that's NEAT!

I want some of those babies!

I think the trouble these days is that the 'pins' are often built into the power supply brick, which is (I think) what JimJacks has.

@ JimJacks - 43 strength/32 quality could even equate to background noise, and that you might even get those figures if you pointed your dish at the wall :?

My Dreambox is certainly like that. All receivers are different though.

When your dish is aligned correctly on one of the major satellite clusters, your readings should be pretty much maxed-out depending on where you are and how big your dish is.

Are you using the original LNB or a new one? Do you know it works OK?

Well my dish is fixed on the wall upstairs bedroom height , i use a ladder to reach and move it ..

Standing under the dish looking at the LNB i moved the dish slightly to the right a couple of mills .

Now after a scan i get the previous mentioned Astra and two others Euro1080 HD-1 and Euro1080 HD-5..

And just to make things harder ! The latest Star Box software crashes when i view the two Euro1080 channels..

I have reinstalled the original software off the CDrom ( older original software ) and installed latest sat.dll list .. Now sometimes the Euro1080 channels slightly play other times it complains Poor reception DTV signal is to weak (001)

The Software claims Quality 62% Signal 94% ( but i don't trust these readings as it varies so much depending which version of the TwinHan Star Box Software is installed )

I haven't a clue really but after looking at Lyngsat for channels on Satellites i wonder if I'm on Astra 1D ( only as its the only one so far Ive seen Euro1080 HD-1 mentioned on and HD-5 , But if i read the legend right its says HD-1 is encrypted ..)

and i get nothing for HD-2 ... confused as to which satellite Ive found ..

It sounds like you're on Astra 1D at 23.5E to me.

The Starbox may not display the HD channels as it's probably not capable of HD

Swing it around to 19.2E and have a scan there.

according to the write up in my 2nd post in this thread stick the 7021 is capable of HD

• High Definition & Crystal Clear Video Quality
Support HDTV receiving
4:3 & 16:9 selectable aspect ratio
Experience best video quality at high resolution up to 1080i

but as there is not much on 23e I would also go for 19.2E

Ah yes, you're right. The Starbox is only capable of MPEG-2 though, so there are not many transmissions to choose from.

Both HD1 and HD5 are coming in fine here on my SS2, both FTA at the moment.

Scanning that transponder only gives HD1 and HD5 though, no sign of HD2.

HD5 is currently carrying the HD2 on-screen logo.

These two channels on 23.5E are two of only a few that are FTA in MPEG-2 now.

Well thanks for the replies folks

As BGonaSTICK said and I suspected I think I'm on Astra 1D, I could as suggested go for 19 east but I'm considering trying for 28.2/28.5 East , Free To Air.

Film Channels
Film 4
Film 4 +1
True movies
True movies 2
ActionMax
Zone Horror Channel
Zone Thriller
Movies4Men

Other General Entertainment/ Factual etc.
S4C Digidol (Welsh + English subtitles)
Granada Men & Motors
Bonanza TV
AXN Satellite (European)
Life 24
Life TV
Life Showcase
Zone Reality UK
Zone Reality UK +1
Zone Reality Extra
Eat Cinema
Sumo TV
Rapture TV
The Baby Channel
Legal TV
Wine Network

As I already have DTT terrestrial through My twin tuner Sagem 80 Gig PVR with TOP UP TV ( old dying system ) . But since I'm not going to subscribe to the New TUTV Anytime , I thought I would give FTA ago ..

I have a terrible Heath Robinson home brewed Fixed Sat Dish system with no Scales for Elevation or Azimuth ( I tend to think in Standing up , leaning back ( Elevation ) and left , right while facing South (Azimuth ) )

If anyone is interested I found this following site link helpfull for understanding how to use my Lidl bought Sat Finder .
http://www.heyrick.co.uk/ricksworld/...satfinder.html

So my intention is to straighten the dish up a few mill for 22 elevation and then leftish (with Sat Finder) for 28.2/28.5 East Astra /Eurobird..

Questions are

Will my 60 cm ( old Sky Analogue ) mesh Dish and one Lnb ( not original Lnb, its from around the time Analogue sky closed ) give me both Astra and Eurobird on 28 East..

Will my cunning Baldrick style plan work or have I missed something obvious ?

( I'm the sort of Prat that never does anything easy , I have trees in my Garden and to the side. But I think I can squeeze 28 East in , although my dish might foul on the roof, But thats another story....)
