No, I'm afraid that the DM7025 isn't HD anything

Where did you read that by the way?

The only Dreambox that will receive HD transmissions is the DM8000, but it's not been released yet :'(

We're all waiting for one! :spite:

Ah, OK.

That's a little bit of a con.

First of all, have a look at the manufacturers website

No mention of HD.

The 7025 can only handle MPEG2 and not MPEG4.
The 7025 tuner is only a DVB-S1 unit, incapable of DVB-S2.
It can only handle QPSK demodulation, and not 8PSK.

Now, how is that 'HD ready'? :roflmao:

The 7025 has a faster CPU than the other Dreamboxes at 300MHz and I believe it can stream an MPEG2 HD transmission onward to another device for decoding. I believe it can also record it too.

Unfortunately, the 7025 can only output it in SD due to its SCART limitations (though it might be possible to enable component over SCART).

Not much use though, as the standard for HD is MPEG4 and everyone is now taking that up, including the BBC and ITV.

Dream have already put all their eggs in the DM8000 basket anyway.

STICK

I recently bought a 7025 and had the same question, apparently the "HD Ready" means:
Hard-Disk ready!
So you can put a Hard-Disk in the 7025!

Not exactly a con, but not far off!
Bugs.

'HD ready', in the case of the 7025, refers to the processor. The processor is supposedly capable of dealing with the old MPEG2 type of HD (via a standard DVB-S tuner) . The rest of the 7025, however, is definitely not HD ready in any way: no HDMI or component connections, and even if there were, MPEG2 HD has been superseded by MPEG4 (receivable via a DVB-S2 tuner). The 7025's tuners, therefore, are unsuitable for (most) current HD transmissions. (Mind you, it is possible to look at the the SES Astra HD test transmissions on 19.2°E and watch them freeze up.)

Yes, that's my understanding, and hopefully the same as I posted above. Not really a trick, but is a little confusing until you dig the truth out of it's burrow.

Actually the terminology is:

HD = High Definition.

HDD = Hard Disk Drive.

So they are miss guiding people whether they have done this on purpose is a different mater, hope that helps.

KOY.
