whats the advantages of this, i was told on here the other day that it will play a sky card via a dragon cam in a technomate.
even though it won't update, what other cards will it play, what is predater, firecrypt?? and what do they open? is it worth buying the t-rex ahead of the dragon as its replacing it. will the t-rex play my sky card as well, and also what is a loader card?? thanks for any replies.... |

Hi chavslav,
the Dragon/T-Rex cam is a multi cam, able to emulate a lot of different encryptions and open channels, when the keys are known, without the use of a card. Yes it can open S*y channels, but only the channels that you have subscribed to, you do this by inserting your serial number the 10-digit number in the menu of your original Sky box, services->system setup->system details. The dragon cam can not emulate the ability to receive the stay alive signal, sent from S*y to your card, and so the card requires periodically being returned to your digibox to update the card. From what I've read I believe the dreambox can carry out the stay alive task. Predator is the firmware for the earlier Dragon/T-Rex cams, upto version 4.1, currently Predator 3.49, and firecrypt is merely the firmware required for viewing the INXTC adult card usually supplied with the cam, free for 9 months. The latest generation of the Dragon/T-Rex cam is the T-Rex supermodule, and updates using the Predasaurus firmware. A loader card is either a Fun Card 7 or a PIC F84a card, and is required to load the firmware onto your cam, both cams use the same loader cards. Alternatively if you have a CAS 3 you do not require the loader card, but can update the firmware using this alone. Cams on their own can not usually open packages, they merely act as a method of using Subscription, or pirate, cards, on packages that use that particular encryption, as most receivers cannot be patched to alter their built in card reader to decrypt other packages. I hope this helps a little, for more detailed information try a search for duwgati. best wishes Mickha |

Just to add to that, the original, official CAMs just provide the correct environment for that type of encryption to be decrypted. They don't unlock anything on their own.
So, if a receiver does not have a certain decryption capability built-in, a Conax CAM would be required to use an official Conax card, a Viaccess CAM would be required to to use an official Viaccess card etc. The CAM system was designed to get away from having to buy a Conax enabled receiver, AND a Viaccess enabled receiver etc. You could just have one receiver with a CAM slot and plug in the correct CAM for the card you wanted to use. Two CAM slots lets you use two CAMs with two official cards. Then came the unofficial multi-CAMs. Not only were they able to do the job of loads of individual CAMs (Conax, Viaccess, SECA, etc) all in one, they also had some very unofficial capabilities, like being able to illegally circumvent the encryption altogether to the extent that you didn't even need a card. As the encryption systems were upgraded, more and more powerfull multi-CAMs were required to get around it. I hope that adds to, as opposed to detracting from Mickha's post ![]() STICK

Yes, providing you use the correct firmware version, modified Predator file.
Rumours are that very soon it should be able to open D+, but don't expect this to last too long, just enjoy the package while available. |

Hi chavslav,
The twin cam has 2 card readers, first the normal place for a card, the second is for a SIM card, small flip top on the cam. The latest Dragon has returned to the older design, without the SIM card reader. To load the Predator firmware, on any Dragon Cams, and keep it updated, you require either a loader card and suitable card programmer or the CAS 3. Once loaded with a Predator file you can manually update keys, via your receivers remote control, but to cope with major updates you require to update the Dragon firmware using the loader card or a CAS 3. Best wishes Mickha |
