Default 80 Cm Sky Dish

Anybody know anything about these 80cm Oval Sky dishes. :? Some guy is selling them on ebay. He reckons that they are approved by Sky.

This quote was taken from the listing:

Quote:
Approved and used by SKY for their own installations. Install brackets and dish are Raven the LNB is Skyware (engineered in Germany, so its top quality kit)
I was thinking of buying one to play with the birds to the west, Atlanticbird 3, Thor and Hispasat mainly.

How do you think they would rate for getting these birds.

The other question is do you think it could handle another lnb? I have no idea but if i buy one i'm going to find out. I have plenty of square tube to play with.

Sky only do 2 sizes, so its a zone 2 60cm.

He will be measuring across the wide horizontal axis - Sky measure dish size top to bottom

It should certainly do AB3, Hispasat, and probably the UK-getable stuff at 1W - Nordic beam on Thor II and Spot beam 1 on Intelsat 10-02.

You may have to twist it to a funny angle though. A standard dish would be better, easier to add an LNB to, and easier to adjust the LNB skew on.

I also don't think I'd buy a dish from a guy who can't measure, has zero feedback, and a nick of 'seymoretelly' :roflmao:

Remember that Sky dishes need sky lnb's whatever size they end up being. You cant use low noise figure normal lnb's as they are designed for circular dishes and wont be "illuminated" by an oval dish properly.

nanochuck - Buy yourself a proper round dish - you know you want to

Have done already. A nice bright yellow floor mounted Televes Parabol 90. Should do the job me thinks.

I e-mailed the guy again regarding the size of the 80cm sky dish. This is what he came back with.

Quote:
t's a fraction under 80 cms wide and a fraction under 57 cm high
Dont know if hes refering to a standard zone 2 one or what, but i dont really care now as i've got a new toy to play with now.
