if its running linux can you just simply ssh into if and $export DISPLAY="my_ip_address:0.0"
to view tv on any pc ?

Don't know - I'm not really a Linux-head - but the vast majority of folks use VLC, and hooks are built into most images via the web interface. It's a breeze.

And yes, the Dreambox (well, let's say any Linux STB which has the required emulators compiled for it) is the only device other than a Sky digibox to be able to fully support a Sky card - including activation and periodic OTA 'stay-alive' card authorisations. You just need to apply the correct software and configuration.

You can stream a picture to any pc on the same lan as the dreambox but over wan the connection is too slow for a reliable stream. That is unless you have a wan connection well in excess of 10 Mbps. In the UK even 10 Mbps is rarely achieved. The ISPs say 'up to 10 Mbps but it usually runs at 6 or less.

The stream options in Dreamview are:
MPEG TS (.ts)
Transcode to MP3
MPEG PS (.mpg)
Server Output
Dump Stream.

I always leave mine in .ts format

Yes, .ts is the default format for recording onto the internal drive.

I leave mine in that format too. If I want to keep them, I just burn them onto a DVD in that format. I find that whatever tools I use to convert to a burnable DVD image give either audio or video problems. I tried lots of things and none of them were perfect.
