Default Sky Italia subscription

Hi Everyone,
My brother has Sky Italia subscription that he bought from an on line company last year which is due to run out very soon and has been quoted over £1000 for renewal which you will agree is rather excessive.
I have been scanning these forums for the last few weeks(and I must admit members have been most helpful) and I was wondering whether he could do it cheaper?
Being Italian (we do have relatives back home) and I wondered whether you could answer the following :
1 - Could one of our relatives purchase a Sky Italia card and send it on?
2 - Would Sky Italia let me purchase a card from Italy and use it here in the UK?
3 - Do you have any knowlege on this subject?
4 - Am I wasting my time?
Hope you can help!

As far as I know, you don't need a phone connection for Sky Italia, but you can check the small print for yourself I guess. My Italian sucks!

You'll need either an Italian Sky digibox or a Dreambox (I think you'll find).

That's great oh wise one!!!
He's already got an Italian Sky digibox as it came with package with the year's subscription. Looks like option 1 might be worth pursuing.
I'll keep you posted on any developments!

If I'm right, and there's no phone-home problem, then you're in business

Hi Stick,
I've scanned Sky Italia's small print and it definitely does not ask for your receiver to be connected at all . My brother informs me that existing Sky Italia card that he got from internet company purchase last year activated straight from the box ( I don't want to name them - and it's now £1275 for new package by the way whereas in Italy it is only 57 Euros a month !)
He's looking into it as we speak.

Cool. I'll move this thread into the General Section as it's Italia-related

The only things I would do to keep your story looking good (you're supposed to be in Italy, right?) is to either withhold your telephone number when you dial from outside Italy (or use a mobile), and if you can, source your payments from an Italian bank account or credit card.

Fingers crossed, but I can't see a problem. There is certainly no technical reason why you can't get it to work.

Hi Stick,
My brother's plan is to get one of our relatives back home to register with Sky themselves as they do stipulate requirement of a telephone number for subscription but not for activation. Card will then hopefully be posted on to England.
My brother will obviously pay subscriber equivalent in Euros for year's subscription. That's the idea for now anyhow!!!
