Ah...was suspecting this from your screen name...but didn't like to ask. Personal questions about organs and sizes tend not to go down too well with complete strangers! Used to pump the old pipes meself...I just siphon away quietly now. How's yer 64 foot? Have you seen a 128 foot? "More vox humana darling" (quote from Mapp and Lucia!)

Well, actually, I did play on the 64 foot pedal stop at Liverpool Cathedral a few years ago - AND they turned on the 50 inch blower so that I could use the new Corona Trumpets which are mounted in the vaulted roof space - 50 inches of wind pressure is about 2 pounds per suare inch which makes for a very loud trumpet - yes, really!!

The little photo on my name is of yours truly playing a cinema organ with the projection screen for the audience. A 128 foot stop would not only be an expensive draught but it would probably demolish the building into the bargain!! As for the Vox Humana, if voiced well it can sound excellent and very French - if not voice well it can sound like the bleat of a demented goat!!

In Norfolk, I am told, there is a church whose organ was built by a local organ nut who laid 128 foot pipes underneath the floor running the whole length of the church - as they'd need to! Allegedly when you couple the 128 foot stop the building shakes BIG time! Bring it on!

Damn...I've hijacked another thread! ops:
