The carefully crafted digital switch over timetable is already in danger of unravelling after it was revealed that the new Caldbeck transmitter (on the hills south of Carlisle) wont be completed until Q2 2009 at the earliest.

Digital UK regional manager John Askew said: “Caldbeck will be switched over in the second quarter of 2009 because it is going to take that long to complete the work. We are building an entirely new transmitter from ground up.”

He said the building work, which was not assessed until after the timetable for the switchover was announced, had not been delayed but was going to take longer than expected.

This means that the Selkirk transmitter serving the south east of Scotland will be the digital pioneer for several months (I can see Selkirk transmitter from my garden!)
