Default new install, cant find men and motors / citv

Have just put a dish on the wall, managed to get a 49 % signal on both astra 19 and 28 , but no sign of the 2 main channels i require which are men and motors and CITV. Any suggestions as to which satelite or direction I should be pointing towards ?

Hi mate,

What reciever have you got ?

If you have a Technomate, you can do a blind scan, & it will pick up a load of channels that you may not get on a normal scan.

Failing that, find out the transponder for those channels & just scan that ! Google flysat !!

49% is very 'iffy' to receive anything.

It depends upon your receiver but anything below about 55% is not likely to give you a picture and even then it is likely to break up.

Let us know a bit about your receiver and dish and approximate location ie north Uk, south UK, Africa etc.

Your dish should be large enough for 28.2E Astra 2 which is where the two channels you require are, but as has been mentioned, you'll probably get that sort of signal from background radiation alone. I don't think you've found either satellite yet.

Have a look at this. It should help you align your dish.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on

Thats damn close to me. Imagine due south is "12o'clock" Point the towards "10o'clock".. Put the dish face vertical and you will be very close. You cant miss 28E - its bl**dy strong!

Should be fine. 28E has some ultra high power sats slotted there.

If you follow the link on the page above (i.e. http://www.ses-astra.com/consumer/si...tant/index.php) and either click exactly where you are on the map, or type in your co-ordinates if you already know them then click 'Next' at the bottom of the page. Fill in the info and click 'Next' etc. until you get to the end, it'll tell you how to align your dish

If you still have problems, get back and we'll talk you through it in a different way until you're comfortable.

Regards,

STICK
