Default Viaccess cam

I've at last got round to ordering a motorised system ( must have taken at least 12 months ops. It comes with a Technomate 1500 super receiver with CI and multi card reader. The question is: Do I need a Viaccess cam to be able to use an Art sports card?

Also there seems to be more than 1 Viaccess cam available, which 1 do I need? Plus I've seen another 1 on flee bay called 'Reality 4 + cam (Viaccess, Irdeto, Conax, Seca) for around £70. Is this any good or is it a bit dodgy? Any help appreciated

Kev.

Hi mship,
I don't yet have a system(but have been reading loads in last couple of weeks) and I am pretty sure Technomate 1500 CI has viacess cam embedded so you should only need to buy card to get activated.
A boffin will come along in a sec and second it!!!!

From what i could see before i ordered my 1500 CI, it has an embedded Multicrypt Card reader which i would probably say would do viaccess. :?

The fairly cheap Matrix cams also do viacess aswell. You can find them on ebay, I have seen them go for as little as £10. Unfortunately i dont think they aren't much use for anything else these days other than for use as a cam for an official card.

I don't actually know for sure. The vast majority of folks patch their 1500's as soon as they get it - if it's not already patched when you buy it!

Once patched, yes - it will work with your ART card.

If anyone has ever tried an ART card in an UNPATCHED Technomate 1xxx series STB, then please confirm your results in this thread.

The Viaccess emulation is only part of the firmware, and not the hardware.

Cheers guy's ,
I'll get an Art card next week and try it. If it works then great, if not then I'll look into getting it patched

Thanks again,
Kev

Cool. Please let us know.

Patching is easy, and it would be silly not to

apparently you will need latest patch for art card if its of the al jazeera type.

the latest patch will support viaccess 2, which is required for the 12 month aljazeera /art full package, hope this helps.

Cue questions on how to patch :? :

Oh and I won't be able to try anything until next weekend at the earliest ( system won't arrive till at least monday). And, as I'm fitting it myself , I still have to source an extra large pair of ladders, big enough to reach up towards the top of the gable end. And I won't be going up there if it's blowing a gale like it is now

We can talk you through patching no problem. All you need are the correct files and a null-modem cable.

You're right not to attempt a dish install unless it's a very calm day. Make sure the ladder is properly secure too. Obvious advice I know, but we haven't lost a member yet and we don't want you to be the first

Is the null-modem cable the 9 pin female to 9 pin female type?

I've found a few on Ebay between 2m and 10m in length, they are identical in every way apart from in length, but for some reason only the 2m version is described as suitable for a TM :?

I've sent the guy a message to ask why but not had any reply yet, 10m cable would be ideal as it would reach from my reciever to my pc without having to move them
