Default History Channel Goes HD in the U.K.

A&E Television Networks is set to launch The History Channel HD in the U.K. and Ireland on BSkyB in the fourth quarter of this year.

This is the first high-definition version of The History Channel; an HD feed is expected to launch in the U.S. in 2007. The History Channel HD on Sky HD will be programming by The History Channel U.K. and will offer a separate schedule to the standard-definition format. The lineup includes Engineering an Empire, Warrior Empire: The Mughals, Lost Gods and The Sahara, as well as HD presentations of The Plague, The Crusades: Crescent & The Cross, and Beyond the DaVinci Code.

The History Channel HD will join ten other HD channels on Sky HD. They include two Sky Sports offerings, two Sky Movies channels, as well as Artsworld HD and Discovery HD, among others.
