Default Which Bird to look at

Well i have been playing alot with my 90cm Televes dish in the last few days looking at whats on offer on various birds.

Currently its pointing at 16e, although i am not getting a fantastic signal only around 50-60% quality on the stronger transponders and 40% (unwatchable) on the weakers ones. I'm assuming this is normal as W2 is starting to get on a bit. :?

I did manage to watch National Geographic (Turkey & Germany) last night until the key changed and it became scrambled again, although it did pixilate quite abit at times, even with the signal amplifier conected.

I have a viwing angle from about 12w to about 45e, (Cant get Hispasat 30W unfortunately) with other dishes permanantly fixed at 28.3E, 19.2E and 13E. Can anybody recommend any other birds that are worth looking at with my Televes 90cm with the view of stuff been open (VPS). :?

I have so far looked at Atlantic Bird 3 5W, (nothing much there apart from M6 Belgium - VPS) Sirius 5E (nowt much there either) and Thor 1W (nowt there either). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Turksat at 42E has a little bit of interesting stuff in BISS. Good for a play. Not sure if your Techno will do it :?

My TM 1500CI+ has the darkman Patch on it and it does have a section in the menu with BISS keys on it so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have also had a few bits and pieces flagged as Cryptoworks encrypted open aswell so this should be quite interesting. The patch on my receiver does have a section of Cryptoworks keys embedded into it . I'm not sure if it has opened cryptoworks channels or if it was just a fluke as the channels may have only been flagged as encrypted but in the clear. Heres hoping:?

Any idea what sort of strength the signal is from Turksat in the UK? Its got to be better than from W2 at 16e, Surely it can't be any worse:?

I'm sure from what i have read that they constantly keep changing the frequencies and bit rates of the broadcast on these 2 birds, any idea how much truth there is in this.

I will have a play tommorow and let you know what happens.

There are a couple of channels on 10E, MGM and Disney, that are in English and the BISS keys are known!!!!!

Indeed. Lancelot knows quite a lot about the BISS stuff.

Signal off 42E is OK, but I can't see it where my dishes are

Some Cryptoworks stuff IS open on Hotbird and others. The whole blinkin' lot was open a few months back including DigiTurk on 7E, which is why I still have an LNB there. DT finished a card swap soon after, so it all went black again.

Ever hopefull though, me

Here's the CW stuff that has been open at one point or another. DT and LigTV are long gone. I think many of the others still work, but they're very small.

Kingstone
Extramusic
JSTV
DMC
Turner
British Telecom
Slovak Link
Czech Link
ORF
EasyTv
MTV Networks
Digiturk
LigTV
Arena - tividi

Cryptoworks was mysteriously 'hacked' just around the time it was sold to Irdeto :?

Stuck the 90cm dish on 10e tonight. I think i might leave it there for a bit. Hopefully i will get to see some test stuff of EB10 (doesn't quite have the same ring to it as HB3 does it?) before its brought back into service. Things could be getting interesting a 10e

I am a little concerned that the strongest quality signal i'm getting is between 50 - 55 % even though the strength is at 85%. Is this normal for Eutelsat W1? Hopefully it will get stronger when they switch EB10 back on.

My daughter is chuffed about Disney and my wife is intregued about MGM. looks like i may be winning her over with the sat stuff.

10E isn't the strongest, nor does it produce the best quality readings for me, but it stands up pretty well.

My tactic for winning the family over is to record some decent movies (some soppy girly ones too ops: ), cartoons, whatever, when the big packages are open, and then save them for when you want to spend some more money on a dish

What a load of crap I'm talking now... my wife is a gem - she would let me do or buy whatever I want!

Thanks wife

hi nanochickin,if you have a dish of fair size 2 move to 30 west.a 80 cm should do in some parts of the uk for stronger transponders im told.if your to far north this might not work,of course you need sight as well.16e & 10e i would say min size dish of a meter 2 make worth while.on 16 east a guy i know can get feeds here with a meter dish, but not all feeds.this guy is a liverpool fan & sees the feeds from 16 east when on.if its bad wether with his meter dish the signel brakes up or he loses it.8 west you should see some feeds with a 90cm,12 west you will be right on limit,so touch & go wether you see.on 12 west i find my tm 5500 dapci better than my tm 1500 on 12 west for signel.the tm 5500 dapci has a better tuner in the receiver.this is with my t90 wave dish iv done a test with it.remmber my dish has a reflector plate so it piggie backs the signel.this might give a bit more signel than a 90cm dish on its own.but not 100% sure if this is right,as iv not used a 90cm dish with out reflector plate since alog days.the 3 sats @ 5e your only get signel off the strongest 1 there not the other 2.@ 1 west you might get a few hmmmmm, but you deferntly wont get the baltic signels from 1 west.hope this helps out some, lets us know how you get on m8.

ps @ 1 west you can tilt the dish a bit higher from the ark on a dish with motor.this will give a bit more signel strenth.
