Default 4W - Amos 1/2

My transponder list is well out of date for this satellite at the moment, but here in sunny Brighton on a Triax TD88 dish at... OMG... three in the morning, raining lightly, I'm pulling in 10723 H with a healthy 34% signal strength (my Skystar will produce a picture down to around 4%).

That's more than enough to snap Geri Halliwell in her PJ's :

4%? The background noise is more than that.

Obviously the electronic signal reporting system is different from mine. With no signal at all I get 40% signal strength.

That is why I say the signal strength meter doesn't mean a thing. The proof of the pudding is in the piccy.

Absolutely, I just posted it as a yardstick to measure the 34% signal.

As you so rightly say, you simply cannot compare signal readings across receivers with any degree of confidence. 34% strength is a belting signal for me from Amos, though strong Astra2, Astra1, Hispasat etc TP's can give a 99% reading.

I can't give a quality reading from the Skystar, as in MyTheatre it nearly always shows 100% (effectively 'inverse BER'), and in ProgDVB it displays the strength instead :

My Dreambox says pretty much the same thing whether you point the dish at Astra2 or the flower beds...

Default Amos2 @ 4*west

Just found "Boom Public" on 10925H, 27500, 7/8 at 70+strength and 30+quality.
Also
3 test card channels on 11687H, 15000 at 70 strength and 20quality. Quite weak signal, keeps going in and out of lock.

B! cold here that's why I'm playing with the sat gear trying to update transponders. Otherwise I would be outside coating the fence which is in sore need of treatment before the winter arrives.

(spell checked)

Hi satsid
No reception at all on 11558H, 8888, 3/4. Tried up to 10megs either side but no joy.
Thanks for the input though.

I seem to remember seeing that craggy face of Sid James somewhere else in the past and something about feed hunting. Anyway the past is past, look to the future.

hi BH where what board do you remember seeing that craggy face of Sid James.as you say if iv upset people past is past.im a bloke who will speek his mind no matter how high on a board somone is.i guess today im fading out of satellite today slowly.there are many guys out there who feedhunt, but to do it well it is hard work.i find if i spend to long @ it i can get head ake with it.there another thing iv learnt 2,if its not pay tv on most boards then your not thought of much by who run.also i asked somone to go on a board, now i got a kick in the teeth from that.now no-one will ever see me @ full speed for feedhunting.why should i bother.this is not a go @ anyone just how i feel.there a good chance come the new year my days in satellite are over.
all the best from.ps it seems a wast on what i can do & what might be lost.

Hi satsid
Nothing meant by my remark m8. Just that the odd thing now and again rings a bell, ie Sid James craggy face, my memory is still fuzzy after the stroke.
Not sure which board I saw it on either, there are a number in my computer favourites, but as I cannot remember any nicks or passwords I have not bothered with them.
Sorry if I upset you by the remark but it was only just an observation that seemed to click in the old memory banks.
Regards.
