Default Polsat sale talks continue

Unconfirmed reports in the Polish press say that Zygmunt Solorz is in negotiations to sell a 25% stake in Polsat for over PLN1 billion (€263.5 million).

Although Bertelsmann’s RTL Group is regarded as a frontrunner, it is understood that four other foreign media heavyweights – News Corp., CME, MTG and Axel Springer – are also firmly in the picture.

Should the talks fail, Polsat is likely to hold an IPO in Warsaw after the 2007 summer holidays to sell 20% of shares in the company.

Separately, Polsat’s DTH platform Cyfrowy Polsat has passed the one million-subscriber mark, putting it ahead of its rival Cyfra+, which has 850,000 customers, for the first time ever.

Cyfrowy Polsat is to introduce a PVR product with a 160GB hard disk from today (November 20), while Cyfra+ will launch its first HD channel – Canal+ Sport HD – in December.
