Could anybody tell me how to connect a satellite receiver to a laptop (pcmcia slot or usb) for the best results? I seem to be getting mixed up with terrestial, satellite or analogue. Can I expect the picture to be as good as if watching a normal tv monitor

Do you mean by connecting a satellite receiver card and dish to the laptop, or by streaming a signal from a receiver to the laptop?
If the first, then you can get a usb connected satellite card. Other than that, you can stream a signal via lan if you have a lan connection on your receiver. The picture will be just as good on the laptop as on tv, providing the laptop is sufficiently powerfull and the screen is good resolution.

Yeah, it all comes down to the power (CPU and Graphics) of the laptop I think.
I have an older Thinkpad (PIII 900MHz) with a Skystar USB, which is OK but the frame-rate drops off a bit sometimes and doesn't look too good on fast-moving images either.
