is there a patch out for the sl65 just to free these up?

To get certain channels on Sky you require a FTV (Free to View) card, or a subscription, if you check out the sky &FTV forum you will find out a lot more information.
Best wishes

Why are you surprised? DTT (FreeView) and satellite are totally transmission formats and therefore have different transmission arrangements for free/pay channels.

Theres absolutetly no way of patching any non Sky receiver to get sky channels for free

The 'FTV' card from Sky costs a £20 one-off fee and gets you Channel 4, FIVE and Sky Three.

In the same way that some of the Freeview channels are not FTA on satellite, satellite has loads of channels (way more) that are not on Freeview, even on 28.2E - plus truckloads of digital radio.

Check out a full list here: http://www.ftasat.co.uk

It was totally updated as of yesterday.

Most receivers require a null-modem lead, and not a standard serial lead. That's probably your problem

Similar, but usually come in a 9-pin female-female configuration as opposed to male-female.

it was a null modem cable i tried but one suppied with an ibm server

we have had probs at work in the past using a standard non ibm cables on ibm servers so guess they have a slighty different pin out from the norm

This is what it should be, so you can test it if you have a meter.
