Default True South

Just a quickie (that way I won't wake the girlfriend )

As my longitude is 3* west would setting my dish up on 4*w be better than using 1*w?

I'll be up at the crack of dawn (well before 9 anyway ops re-fitting everything tomorrow before the winds return on Sunday :.

Thanks,
Kev.

It would, but I'd be surprised if you can get a decent signal on Amos 4W where you are? :?

1W would be fine too. BBC world is a nice strong signal, it's FTA, and it's easily recognised.

Good luck tomorrow m8, and don't take any chances up that ladder.

As Workington is approx 3.54*west, it might pay you to set up on a French Channel at 5*west. Just a thought.

Cheers guy's

Re:ladders hopefully I've done the hardest bit today by dismantling it all. Quite hairy carrying a 1m dish, motor and wall mount 7.5 metre's down a ladder (not all in one go of course).

New position is about 2.5 meter's lower. Amazing how much more comfortable that feels up a ladder

Off to bed now, I'll leave this place to all you night owl's

Cheers,
Kev.

With mships comments about ladders lets put an important safety point in here for future reference:

Never ever try to install (or remove) a dish on windy days. The surface area of even quite a small dish is plenty big enough to pull you off a ladder if the wind gets behind it. And never try to realign a moved dish unless you have 100% safe acceess to it. Your health & safety really isnt worth saving a few quid by trying to do the job and falling off the ladder

Howdy,
I'm going to move my full mount up to the top of the house, between xmas and new year to see if I can pick up more of the eastern sats.
My motor has a scale imprinted on the body from 0(centre) to 60 in both directions in multiples of 5.
I'm assuming these are angles of the arc
My longitude is pretty close to mships (3.45w)
If I'm setting up on 1w, where should the wee arrow point on the scale.
I wasn't much good at orienteering at school(25 years ago :?
My mate has access to scaffolding so I'm getting him to put some up for me. He owes me a wee favour
I'm going for the Tand K bracket set-up and am going to steal a pole off him to chop up with my grinder :spite:

Make sure it's not attached to the scaffolding tower first! :roflmao:

You don't have to be an orienteer to setup your motor The marks on the side of the motor are for elevation. The marks around the output shaft are azimuth. If you're at longitude 3.45W and setting up on 1W, you should set the motor to 2.45 degrees E.

Goddit?

Thanks, I was thinking along those lines.
I just had an image of me with my grinder like the old cartoons, the character cutting the branch off the tree while he's sitting on it! ops:
