The digital terrestrial television (DTT) set-top box market is set to exceed more than $1bn, boosted by the US analogue cut-off date of February 17, 2009, and a growing Chinese market, according to latest research by In-Stat.

"As DTT markets mature, the growth in uptake of DTT tuners will continue, aided primarily by increased consumption for second and third TVs," said In-Stat.

Analyst Michael Inouye added: "The prospects of turning off analogue terrestrial broadcasts, coupled with ongoing marketing campaigns, are powerful motivating factors for consumers to adopt the digital platform."

Europe continues to lead DTT take-up, said In-Stat, and could see significant digital penetration as analogue cut-offs continue and commence.
