Hi All
I am a newbie, I have installed a 80cm dish with the above, my problem is all I can get is no signal or bad signal.... There are two indicator bars one is the LEVEL which I understand to be cable connection strength that is about 90% and another indicator bar QUALITY which no matter what I do stays around 3 or 4%. I have tried moving the position of the dish azimuth and elevation through many different postions and nothing seems to change the Qulaity which I know needs to be 60% plus. I know the LNB is working and I have checked all the connections etc.. Any suggestions please Philsie |

Hi philsie, welcome to the forum.
I have split your post out to its own thread because you are likely to get better resonses than hidden in another topic, even though they are similar. Can you tell us a bit about your system. Is it a motorised dish, or is it fixed with a single lnb? Also which satellite are you trying to get initially?

Hi Jim
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for your help, Its a fixed unit and I am setting it up on a single LMB to start with once I have done that I will then change to a monobloc I am looking for Hotbird and Astra, my dish is set at 33 degree and pointing generally south east, I used a sat finder to help me set up the dish and I have played moved the dish through many different angles and positions I was suprised when I got the dish that on fitting the plastic attachment at the rear of the unit that it appeared to be a universal item and to fit it to my 80cm dish I neede to not only drill 2 extra fixing holes but I also had to cut a slot in the dish for the bar that holds the LNB I appreciate any help I can get, I would rather do it myself than be forced to call out an engineer. My email address removed. it is not a good idea to post your email address philsie, you will get all the help you need without the need for your email. thanks again Philsie |

Hi Philsi
The best way to set your dish up in my opinion is by using both the sat meter and the receiver/TV at the same time. ![]() Set up a portable TV and your receiver where you can see it from the dish so you can see the signal and quality meters move when you lock on to your chosen satellite transponder. You will find a list of transponders in your TM manual or on this link http://www.satellitehelp.co.uk/forum...ic,1359.0.html Set your receiver up for Hotbird which is the weaker of the 2 satellites on frequency 10892, SR 27500, Horizontal Polorization. Hotbird is at 13e. ![]() Now start to move the dish until you get a signal lock on your meter. Its likely that you will lock onto either Astra 1 or 2 first with the meter as they seem to be the strongest birds in the sky at the moment. If your lucky you might even be on hotbird and you will be showing signal strength and quality on the bars on your receivers picture. If thats not the case you will more than likely need to slowly move the dish to the right (from behind the dish) until you see your meter bars go up. ![]() Once you get a signal lock you will then need to fine tune it, by setting the elevation (Up or Down), and Polorization angle (angle of LNB in holder). Its a simple as that mate. When you come to set up the monoblock just let us know and someone will help you go through it. ![]() Nano

Hi philsie,
it would help a great deal if you could provide your general location, but generally, if in the UK, you should get both Astra and Hotbird with a 80cm dish, but your method of positioning the dish seems a little unusual. It is not easy to locate satellites and requires a great deal of patience, and gentle manipulation, of the dish, both pointing in the correct direction and adjusting the elevation correctly. The easiest way is to start off just pointing the dish at either Hotbird 13E, or Astra 19.2E, with a single LNB, before fitting, and adjusting, a monobloc, if you have just a monobloc just concentrate on the main LNB. Once you've decided which satellite you want. locate the general direction, it is usually easiest for Astra 1, 19.2E, as this is 9 degrees West of a Sky mini dish. After you get a strong signal using your meter, find what channels your receiver picks up as this will aid in identifying which satellite you have found, as it is very easy to locate the wrong satellite, 13E, 16E and 19.2E are all easy to get mixed up. It is sometimes infuriating trying to get a signal, and requires gentle nudges of the dish and a lot of luck, but keep at it !!!!!!! Please post back if you have any questions and keep us informed, and if possible post some pictures. Good luck Mickha |

Ok, I assume that when you say you are pointing your dish generally south east, you have actually got it accurately at 13 degrees east of true south. That is where you will find Hotbird. The margin for error is very small so if you are far out you are probably getting another satellite on your meter and you probably wont get a picture.
You dont say where you are based, but the elevation changes depending upon your location relative to the equator. If you can see a tv from your dish position I would always recommend tuning your receiver to BBC World on a freq of 12597 V 27500 and move your dish slightly for the best signal on that channel. Unfortunately, meters tell you that you have a signal but not what it is.

I'm very concerned that you had to cut your dish about to get the LNB arm to fit. I think that this could well be the cause of your problem.
A few in-focus close-up photos of your mod might allow us to ascertain if this is the cause. Also a full-frame picture of your dish from the side might help. What make and model is the dish?

The dish just would not assemble properly without cutting a slot for the LNB arm in the dish, the problem being I was supplied with a universal attachment that suited many dishes although mine was an 80 cm, in the end it was a location issue, I was aiming at south east and not at 13 degrees east of south, having got that right I am up and running, with 73 % quality and 95% level which I am told is good. Should I get any more problems then back to the drawing board but so far so good, with all the help I have got here, thanks for taking the time to respond philsie |
