Default What does PATCHCD & RS232 CABLE mean please?

I am going to buy a Technomate TMS 1000D and it comes with PATCHCD & RS232 CABLE. I have an idea what it is (sofware, of course) does it give access to some sats/channels or what?

The other bits will be Triax 88 aluminium dish, and MTI Blue Line mono LNB. Oh! and a signal meter. Plus a bit of pipe hammered in to the ground as a mount, this will all take place in Spain near Granada. Reception reports may, or may not, follow!

I must thank Stick and others for answering my stupid questions, but when you are a newbie its hard, but getting easier :-)

Thanks Geoff

A patch is modeified software for the box, that has pay tv service keys embedded into it - although most pay services are secure at the moment so it wont open very much.

The cable connects the receiver to your computer to flash the software over.

Be warned - if the flash goes wrong, you will probably ruin the receiver.

Can highly recommend the 1000D just got one on Friday been playing about all weekend. Make sure you update with the right patch and don't turn off whilst its patching and you should be ok. As stick says unfortunately there is not a lot open at the moment but hopefully there should be soon and there are plenty of FTA channels out there anyway.
