sky dish position - please help!!

Just received it

The 'sent' timestamp is 12:15 20th December 2006 - yes, the 20th! Your mail server is very sick, or just can't wait for Christmas :roflmao: Received at 08:02 this morning.

Anyway, having had a look at your diagram, the front of the house is the obvious place to put the dish. It could be mounted on a pole at the back to look over the roof, or at the bottom of your gargen on a pole, but the front of the house will be far less hassle, cost and mess. Looks like you might not have a loft, so yes, cable might be a bit fiddly. Is there no way you can have some cables run up-front and just leave then dormant in readiness?

The trees to the front won't be a problem as long as they're not much higher than the dish.

very strange indeed... must have a word with our IT chaps...

thanks for the advice, i think there's no avoiding putting the dish on the front...

unfortunately the house is already built, should be ready next week.... there is a (small) loft however... so maybe i should buy a big reel of cable and run some wires in myself if the sky folks are afraid of the loft...???

don't know how the installer would be if i asked him to use my own cable (although it'd save him the hassle of finding a wy through the house with his...???)

As far as I'm aware, Sky installers aren't allowed into loft spaces (not insured) but as long as you use the correct grade of cable (CT100 or better) then I'm sure they'll use what you have in place.

The Sky installation T&C's reserve the right for the engineer to re-use any existing cables, so I'm sure it'll be fine. Just let them do the end bits!

Make sure you leave plenty of length each end, and make sure you lay enough in number. Sky+ requires two cables, so if you want multiroom, or to add other boxes yourself later, lay up to four cables.
