The analogue TV transmitters in the Netherlands were switched off overnight, bringing to an end 55 years of terrestrial analogue programme delivery. From today, terrestrial programme delivery is 100% digital. For the majority of people, the historic change will have passed unnoticed, as most households in the Netherlands receive their TV programmes via cable. But 74,000 households have had to make alternative arrangements - for those without a cable connection, transmissions are available via digital terrestrial and satellite.

As a follow up:
Hundreds of complaints following end of Dutch analogue terrestrial TV The closure of the Dutch analogue TV transmitters on Sunday night has led to hundreds of complaints from viewers. The website geenbeeld.nl (geenbeeld = no picture) had already received 300 messages by mid-afternoon yesterday. The main problem seemed to be poor reception of the replacement digital terrestrial service. In some towns, such as Eindhoven, Doetinchem en Bennekom, people were complaining that reception was totally impossible. In other parts of the country, reception was not optimal. Digital terrestrial operator Digitenne had supplied indoor antennas along with the equipment, and this proved insufficient. Arjan Wiertz of TeVolutie Magazine, operator of the website, says that receiving the signals by satellite is a better alternative. (Source: ANP via Media Network) ![]()
