ProSiebenSAT1, one of Germany’s biggest free-to-air broadcasters, is to be sold to private equity groups Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) and Permira, industry sources said today. The final sale agreement was “now merely a formality,” the sources said.
ProSiebenSAT1’s current shareholders, a group of investors around the US-Israeli billionaire Haim Saban, had agreed in principle to accept the bid by KKR and Permira. All that was needed now were the final signatures. The sale price is expected to be more than three billion euros ($4 billion). Also in the running for ProSiebenSAT1 had been Turkish radio and television group Dogan and a consortium comprising Apax and Goldman Sachs. Haim Saban first tried to sell ProSiebenSAT1 to newspaper publisher Axel Springer at the beginning of this year. But the deal was blocked by competition authorities. Source: AFP
