I've noticed there is a few bits of MPEG-4 transmissions coming off 5W at the moment. Anyone managed to get any of it yet :?

King of Sats states "No reception through standard DVB receivers" Is this broadcast another new standard thats coming out?

This is very interesting. Looks like this has been around for a while, but I hadn't picked up on it. It's DVB-S and MPEG-4, so it's a 'standard' transmission - but the trouble with the MPEG-4 standard (as we know from the Sky/MBAFF/BBC HD fiasco) is that there's nothing standard about it.

I guess that if it's just a bastardisation of the 'standard' video compression as opposed to a proprietary video encryption, then there might be a chance of an emulator/codec for the PC or Dreambox at some point - especially if they start broadcasting premium content.

I guess though, that premium content would also bring about the switch to a robust encryption system.

Yeah, I found a thread from another forum referring to a thread on DS by some bloke called Analoguesat translating something from German about it being French DTT :spite:
